Has Honey Boo Boo become a 'monster'? Hitting Mama June, uncomfortable public spats… Jimmy Fallon audience member reveals what we DIDN'T see on TV

Alana 'Honey Boo Boo' Thompson is known for her endlessly quotable catchphrases and over-the-top antics, but one member of the studio audience at a recent Tonight Show taping was less than charmed by the precocious 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo' star.

In a piece for Salon.com, Christy O'Shoney alleges that the nine-year-old was 'a tiny, dimpled monster' during portions of her interview with host Jimmy Fallon not shown in the broadcast.

While the show's final cut sees the Georgia tot hilariously refusing to hand over one of her friendship bracelets, O'Shoney claims the bit was far less funny in person.

'It didn’t just happen once, but several times, and the more it was discussed, the more openly hostile Boo Boo became,' she writes.

O'Shoney says she witnessed some 'deeply uncomfortable spats' between Alana and her mother, 'Mama June' Shannon, who answered Fallon's questions on Alana's behalf, feeding her daughter lines throughout the interview.

More shocking, the writer claims that Alana struck her mother at one point, prompting the late-night host to advise: 'NEVER hit your mother!'

'The Alana I saw on the Tonight Show set was visibly troubled: disrespectful, defiant, entitled,' O'Shoney adds.

The edited version of the segment, which aired June 11, is far less fraught: In perhaps the most memorable clip, Fallon gives the young star a pair of silver pom poms and they perform a cheer routine together.

Alana's past talk-show appearances have proved unpredictable. In a 2012 episode of Dr. Drew, the pint-size pageant queen pretended to fall asleep to avoid answering one of the TV doctor's questions.

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo returns to TLC for a fourth season tonight. In the premiere, the family organizes a tropical-themed surprise party for Mama June, surprising the matriarch with a 'Fart Zone Throne' and a life-size cutout of her celebrity crush, Mario Lopez.
