Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse - Blu-Ray Movie Review

Commentary

Yes, a silly teen comedy with zombies. However, it is a smartly done teen comedy with zombies. It manages to poke fun at nerds, scouts, rich guys and strippers all the while having a hilarious time with the walking deceased. The acting is really well done and though some of the humor is sexual…especially with dead people, it manages to entertain and amuse on a sophomoric level. The story begins with an incident at a lab which unleashes a zombie plague onto a small town. Fortunately, the three scouts come to the rescue with the help of a former stripper and set things right after a series of hilarious events. Check out some of the merit badges on their uniforms. They are funny, too. Patrick Schwarzenegger (son of Arnold) also is in this movie and if you are curious as to whether he can act, the answer is yes (and without the assistance of muscles, too). If you like zombie flicks and more than a dash of grotesque humor, this movie might be your cup of tea. Scouts honor!

Technical

The film looks excellent with plenty of detail and color. The night scenes, which are abundant, are well lit with good shadow detail. For an inexpensive production, the special effects (most are practical effects) look surprisingly good. I’ve seen better dead on AMC, but these zombies are still pretty good. Sound is a bit front heavy, but the surrounds and sub are put to good use throughout.
