Newsletter July 2016

The new season is getting up to speed and the sun is shining. A very nice forecast for many of you with the benefit that our workshop reached a new record of 32 cars. Not only is the workshop almost bursting, we also had to take 3 cars into storage because stacking cars one on top of each other is apparently not an option.

We told you before that our team has expanded to 4 in the workshop and a lady in the office. Well, we must admit that we have expanded even more with 2 of Julian's old palls joining us to cope with the toys you are thrusting at us. We are in the process of a new rather special showroom in the near future but we will brief you on that later. Again, thank you for the trust, the friendship and the petrol fueled virus we share.

Like many of our existing friends already do, We are pleased to invite you to come over for a quick chat and/or coffee in our toyshop. We will always have something new in and are always interested in your stories.

Alfa Romeo 1750 SS Testa Fissa coming to an end

Last week we finally received the all new Memini carburetor for this wonderful machine. This very rare carburetor was made to original specification specially for this car. Once again, the engine - carburetor relation is correct as it should be. We had to modify the inlets to fit the slightly reclined radiator but that was an easy job. After we double check the whole car, we expect it to start in the coming days!  Brrrrrrrum!!

The cars engine was cracked beyond sensible repair so we made new patterns, then cast and machined a new example to original specification. With a fixed head, double overhead camshafts and tiny 65mm bores for only 1750cc's this was no ordinary engine to rebuild! We have completely rebuilt the engine with new pistons, camshafts, rods, etc and even the supercharger with new inner parts and gears so the engine is ready for many more Mille Miglia's and other rallies to come.

What a beauty!

3D CAD (Solidworks)

Did we mention before that in our team of fine craftsmen, we also can provide you the latest technologies like fully 3D CAD models, calculations and renderings?

After a degree in Product Development and years of experience in a design studio, designing and engineering feels like a second nature for Ben. As an example, last week we developed boot hinge in Solidworks,  This special hinge was designed to go Up and Over and then to automatically click locked in the open position, We then sent the individual CAD drawings to have each part laser cut, to enable us to assemble the hinge in the following few days. It saves a lot of time and work to design systems and do calculations in the CAD program. Trail & error is reduced to a minimum and some of the pressure is taken away from the workshop to focus on the cars.
The shaft in the drawing above is another example, this was for a complete new Constant Mesh gearbox that we designed and manufactured for a 1930 Invicta.

Do you have a bracket that is broken off, do you want to have prototype made or do you want to check if all your dimensions will add up: feel free to contact us and we will do our best to help.  info@hcservices.be

Adobe Photoshop impressions

The same goes for Adobe Photoshop. Many of you will link Photoshop to making supermodels skinny and very good looking. And that is exactly what we are doing with your car models. If you have a vehicle and you are hesitating about the colour? We can do a colour swap without even touching your car. Are you not sure if you want 19 or 21inch wheels, wait with spending money before we photoshop you the impression. Not sure about a normal screen or a Vee shaped windscreen? No problem at all, that also lays within our possibilities. When connected to our Cad software, even a complete prototype body can be designed in 3D if you so wish, and rendered in the colours of your choice.

Feel free to contact us and we will do our best to help. info@hcservices.be

Capital Classic Cars Amsterdam

23/04  > 24/04

Just like the organisors of Interclassics Brussel, the organisers of Capital Cars & Classics felt they were missing a high quality show in the Capital of their country. They found their location after visiting the fabulous Kromhouthal with a spectacular view over Amsterdam's waterfront. This ex-ship yard did not only provide the nice industrial setting for the show but was just big enough for the very select group of invited exhibitors.

Serious visitors were enticed with sushi bars, a gala dinner and a wonderful array of exclusive cars, we can call this first edition a big success. Visitors were targeted very well, everything was of a very high standard, we even sold the Bentley Blower from 1930. Let see what the second edition will bring!

Silverstone FrazerNash Race

22/04  > 24/04

Spring has sprung and so has the new racing season in 2016. As normal, the Vintage Sports Car Club starts off the new racing season and organizes it's first race meeting in the weekend of 22-24th of April. As part of this meeting a special FrazerNash race was organized. Pre-war and Post-war Frazer Nashes were taken to the limit in what promised to be one of the biggest Frazer Nash races ever held.

Since we are fan of real 'gentlemen' racing, we drove 'our' 1954 Frazer Nash Le Mans "OUG2" from our workshop in Belgium, on the road to the race meeting in Silverstone, handed it over to our good friend and well-know vintage racer Rod Jolley. Rod fettled the car for the track, then balanced this very nimble and eager machine around the track. With its tuned BMW 328 engine giving 160BHP and only a body weight of 600 kgs, it ran like a humming bird for the whole time. Not only is this very original 'OUG2' (Only one number away of the legendary OUG3 works car) ideal on the track, it is eligible for road rallies like the Mille Miglia and as our drive to Silverstone and back proves (1200km plus practice and the race) , Distances are no issue at all.  It even has an enormous luggage room in the tail. (Room for the wife) or at least her shoe collection.

Mille Miglia 2016

19/05  > 22/05

If we are speaking about bucket lists, the Mille Miglia should be highly ranked. These thousand miles or 1600 kilometers, were the amazing scenery filled with just as amazing classic cars, racing from Brescia to Roma and to Brescia again.

Only cars between 1927 and 1957 (the years the Mille Miglia was raced) are eligible to participate in this legendary rally. Sir Stirling Moss did it in 1955 in just over 10 hours, nowadays you can do it in 4 days with lovely hotels, special routes through historic villages and an overwhelming crowd. Last year we entered 4 cars who we, as support crew, managed to make sure they all drove over the finish line successfully. This year we are entered with the wonderful list below,  Great cars with friendly owners who we are honored to have been asked to give our usual first class support to.

1934 Lancia Augusta Earl March Coachwork
1936 Lagonda M45R Team Car
1947 Talbot Lago T26
1949 Dagrada 750 Siluro
1957 Ferrari 250 GT Boano
(1936 Talbot Lago T26 Coupé)

Are you interested in participating next year? We can help you with searching the car if needed, helping with your entry, and give you full support during this very intense week. If you put your sunglasses on, we will provide your smile as you cross the finish line and everything else in between.

Le Classic Grand Tour

10/06  > 11/06

If you get an invitation to an event in Le Mans where you are asked to bring two Classic Cars, you just can't say no. We were treated with very nice champagne, appetizers and a very select group of 10 supercars and 10 classic cars. Our Frazer Nash Le Mans and Aston Martin Le Mans MKII stood next to 8 other stunning automobiles like Lorraine Dietrich, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo, Delahaye and Bugatti. The cars were presented each day of the three day event at the local abbey. On Saturday we drove the Classic Grand Tour of the Grand Prix circuit as it was in 1906. A wonderful rally of 180kms along beautiful castles or 'Chateaux' and we were treated to wonderful hospitality with a fantastic gala diner on the Saturday evening. Although this was the first edition, everything was perfectly arranged with a lot of help from local volunteers. It was absolutely wonderful in every way possible. Let's hope for next years invitation! Please!

Concours D'elegance Chantilly

04/09

The major collectors now gather in Chantilly during the first weekend of September. They fly in from the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, South America to attend Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille along with the British, Swiss, Belgians, Germans, Italians, and of course the French.

One hundred of the Most Beautiful Cars in the World are lined up on the Le Nôtre lawns in the estate creating a splendid temporary museum in which they show off their charms with a single aim: to win the supreme award – Best of Show!

In each of the classes comprising between four and six cars, the hand-picked judges take the following criteria into account - rarity, history, state of conservation and maintenance - when examining them to designate the winner. A class victory is, of course, an obligatory step for the car to be selected for the competition for the main prize, the “Queen of the Day”, (Best of Show) awarded by the jury.

We will participate this your with 'our' FrazerNash Le Mans. The car will be presented by our dear friend and Parisian Camille Ripley and husband Guillaume Le Metayer while Julian and Ben will be at the Windsor Castle Concours unfortunately the same weekend.

Concours D'elegance Windsor Castle

19/05  > 22/05

With the gracious permission of Her Majesty The Queen the 2016 Concours of Elegance will take place from 2-4 September at Windsor Castle.

The Concours of Elegance began at Windsor Castle in 2012, before moving to St James’s Palace in 2013, Hampton Court Palace in 2014 and last year the Concours took place at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh (Her Majesty The Queen’s official residence in Scotland).

The 1916 Concours of Elegance will once again be held at Windsor Castle and will bring together a selection of 60 of the rarest cars from around the world – many of which will never have been seen before in the UK. Many of the Concours cars will also take part in a 2 day driving tour ‘The Great West Tour’ in the days running up to the main Concours event.

We will attend this glorious event as special guests of a very gracious friend of ours who will be showing his gorgeous Rolls Royce Silver Ghost,
Fingers crossed for an award! We will keep you informed.

Spa Six Hours

16/09  > 18/09

More than 650 historic racing cars are top of the bill for this major annual rendezvous of clubs and classic cars enthusiasts alike.

Just as the Ardennes forest takes on its autumnal colours, hundreds of historic vehicles will once again be braving the circuit and battling it out.

Mythical machinery, which every generation continues to dream about, such as the awesome Ford GT40, Jaguar Type E, AC Cobra, Chevron B8, Brabham, Lola T70, Ferrari 250LM, will plunge thousands of spectators back into the atmosphere of the post-war years.

These "cars" as they were known in those days, will undoubtedly revive memories of such exceptional drivers as Juan Manuel Fangio, Nino Farina, Alberto Ascari, Peter Collins, Tony Brooks, Jack Brabham, Phil Hill, Jim Clark, who won the Formula 1 Grand Prix. But they will also recall the virtuosity of the current drivers who continue to shine in the wake of such former drivers as Prost, Senna, Schumacher...

To race at Francorchamps is in itself pretty fantastic, but to do so at wheel of such prestigious and mythical machinery as a Ford Mustang Shelby, Porsche 911, McLaren M1C, Austin Healey 3000, Maserati 250, Cooper Monaco, Lotus X... is a myth come true!

Just like last year we will attend this event with the Talbot Lago T26 Grand Prix car driven in era by 'Fifi' Etancelin. A wonderful machine with a fantastic sound!

Interclassics Brussel 2016

18/11  > 20/11

Last year, Interclassics Maastricht decided Brussel was ready to have a big high quality salon again. We had the opportunity to participate in this maiden voyage with good success. As promised, it was a high quality event with a lot of visitors and a good atmosphere. We had very nice feedback and many of you came to our stand. We liked the friendship and ambiance resembling the Workshop atmosphere that we try to capture here in Antwerp.

Due the success of last year, Interclassics is extending the show with extra halls, now four in total, and bringing new themes like the fascinating world of the Microcars and the Legends of Spa-Francorchamps. Again, we will join them with our 180m² stand and shiny toys all around. Hopefully we can even improve on last year's show.

A lot to see so don't miss it!
We look forward to seeing all our friends and enthusiasts on our stand.
