First Deputy Mayor Anthony Shorris, the seasoned government pro who will run the city while Mayor de Blasio is in Italy, has more management experience than his boss.
All agency heads — except the schools chancellor and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton — report to him.
Shorris held top posts in the administrations of mayors Ed Koch and Michael Bloomberg. And he headed the sprawling Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in 2007 and 2008.
His ties to de Blasio go back decades. Their wives became friends when they both worked as speechwriters for Mayor David Dinkins in the 1990s.
