GLENBURN, Maine — The town of Glenburn has contracted with ecomaine to provide single-sort recycling services, effective at the beginning of this month, Town Manager Michael Crooker said Tuesday.
With single-sort recycling, all recyclable materials — such as paper, newspaper, paperboard, cardboard, plastics, and aluminum and tin cans — can be placed into a single bin.
The materials, which are collected at the curbside in Glenburn, are sorted by ecomaine at its recycling facility in Portland.
An educational kick-off event with ecomaine staff is set for 2-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22 at the Glenburn Municipal Building on Lakeview Road. The first 100 households that show up will receive a free 22-gallon recycling bin, according to a flyer issued by the town.
Owned by 21 communities, ecomaine is a nonprofit recycling and waste-to-energy operation that serves 25 percent of Maine’s population.
Under the terms of the contract with ecomaine, Glenburn will receive single-sort service for three years at no cost to process the material.
A list of what can and can’t be recycled has been posted on the town’s website, found at www.glenburn.org.
