Estes Park Run Club out for a brisk run

Over 20 members of the Estes Park Running Club braved the 2 degree temperatures Tuesday night to participate in the club’s weekly  run.

Runners took off at 6 p.m. Tuesday night in the 2 degree weather (according to accuweather the chill factor made it feel like -8) for the 5K run that originates at the Stanley Hotel.

The run club is a year-round commitment to health and wellness. The club has had over a hundred runners at some of its  events and leaders plan to go strong all winter as long as there’s hot chocolate and whiskey waiting at the Stanley Hotel finish line.

Reed Rowley, one of the runs organizers, stated that the club has  managed to keep its numbers high throughout the winter, with an average of 40 or so participants each week. Runners range from  grand kids to grandparents.

” Likewise, we’ve had as many as 100 runners when the weather is great,’ Said Rowley.  “It’s fun, it’s free, it’s fitness… and there’s a cold beer (and hot chocolate) waiting at the finish line each Tuesday.”

The run club meets every Tuesday at 6 p.m., in front of the historic Stanley Hotel steps. The distance is 3.1 miles (5K) on an ‘out and back’ course along McGregor Ave/Devils Gulch Road. All abilities and age groups are welcome to participate in the weekly fun runs.

“I challenge you to find a tougher group in long-underwear anywhere in Colorado on a Tuesdaynight,” said Rowley. “Our faces may be hard to see under the headlamps, but it’s all smiles I assure you.”
