Geocache Description:

Multi-cache consisting of either a 3 or 4km (60 or 90 minute) stroll along the Hatfield Aerodrome Heritage Trail.

The Hatfield Aerodrome Heritage Trail was officially opened on 24 November, 2010. It forms part of a Heritage Lottery funded project by the University of Hertfordshire to mark the 80th anniversary of the opening of the airfield by the de Havilland Aircraft Company. The full trail is around 4 km long and takes around 90 minutes to walk. A shorter version is around 3 km and takes around 60 minutes.

There are ten A2-sized information boards located at various points around the trail, with the first board and start of the trail located outside the University of Hertfordshire's de Havilland Campus (the university's origins can be traced back to the de Havilland Technical School). A leaflet with a map of the route is available at the reception or available online here.

You will need to visit all eight information boards along the shorter trail in order to obtain clues to the cache's final location - a printable version of the clues from the additional waypoints can be found here. The longer trail also includes boards 4 and 5, which are optional but worth a visit if you have the time (or a football)!

Standing at the first information board, obtain the first clue by completing the missing decade (A) in this sentence:

Geoffrey de Havilland was knighted in 19A4.

Find the other clues (B-H) at the additional waypoints along the trail. With the digits collected, the cache can be found in a camouflaged bag under the southeasterly corner of the [see hint] located at N 51° AB.CD0 W 000° EF.GH3.

The cache itself is a 670ml container with logbook, pencil and die cast model of the cache's namesake. Bonus points for identifying the name of the road nearest the cache's hidden location.

Please do not try to remove the model as it is glued in place!
