The 14 and 16-year-old obtained the weapon illegally, according to Leon County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Drzeweicki, and charges are pending.

Students at Lincoln, Apalachee Elementary and the Ace-Adult & Community Education were never in danger, Leon County Schools officials say.

“No students were injured and no known threats were made,” said LCS spokesman Chris Petley.

Drzeweicki said the teens were shooting at an abandoned home before school when they were confronted by a resident of the Idlewild Drive neighborhood.

One of the teens fled and the other was detained and chastised by the neighbor who was brandishing a shotgun after hearing the gunfire, Drzeweicki said.

They were questioned at Lincoln, but were not found in possession of a firearm on school grounds, Drzeweicki said.

“Children with firearms will not be tolerated,” Drzeweicki said.
