eDish with Commish - Greetings Pack Leaders!
 Welcome to eDish with Commish, a quick way to get some timely information out into the hands of folks who need it. eDish is a companion to a new casual gathering I am calling "Dish with Commish" which will be held on the 4th Saturday of each month at the Panera Bread on SR-436 and Maitland Avenue in Altamonte Springs starting at 8:30 a.m. This will be an informal, "come as you are," dutch treat, chance for scouters to get some questions answered by a member of their District Key 3. Feel free to pass this along to any of your unit leaders who may be interested in attending. Our first "Dish" will be held this Saturday, May 28th.
Cub Scout Crossover Special
Recently I have been fortunate to attend a number of "end of school year" Pack meetings, and had the opportunity to see our cubs advancing to the next program in the Pack (Tiger -> Wolf, etc.).
While this is incredibly important for our young men, it is no less important for our Den Leaders who are "crossing over" as well. As it means that paperwork (that ugly 4-letter word) needs to be done!
This is especially true for Tiger Den Leaders (TD) who are becoming Den Leaders (DL) and Assistants (DA) in the Wolf Program, and the Bear Den Leader (DL) and Assistants (DA) that are becoming Webelos Den Leaders (WL) and Assistants (WA). (Not to mention a new Cubmaster (CM) or Assistant (CA) among other positions that change mid-year.)
But you say ... "we do all that at recharter time, we don't need to do that now!" Sure, if you want your Den Leaders to lose 6 months of time in their new role -- which is six months that does not count for training awards!
Speaking of Training Awards ...
Now is a good time for Pack Trainers to start looking at the records of all their Pack Leadership to see who has qualified for the various Cub Scout training awards. And don't forget, if your Cubmaster has served for 18 months, they may also qualify for the Unit Leader Award of Merit, so don't forget to check those requirements as well.
