Deadmau5 has apparently made an early New Year’s resolution: no more Twitter feuds.
The electronic music producer and DJ has rebooted his Twitter account — and lost more than 3.2 million followers in the process.
The artists explained (sort of) his rash decision in a Tumblr post in which he touched on his personal depression issues and apologized to his fans and supporters for snapping the lines of connection. Precisely what informed his decision isn’t clear. Though it has “nothing at all to do with popstars or dubstep tryhards,” he explained in a nod to his recent spray at Justin Bieber and ongoing beef with Skrillex.

Deadmau5’s reactivated Twitter account has quickly built an army of more than 1 million followers, though he’s posted just two messages thus far — his statement and a snap of his impressive in-progress home studio. His 29.3 million historical tweets are now lost in cyberspace.

The star producer’s out-of-cycle year has been had its share of battles. There were brickbats for David Guetta and Diplo, and he launched (and subsequently resolved) separate legal actions, one involving Disney and the other a Toronto production called Deadmouse: The Musical. His blast at Bieber — who he described as a “meat puppet” — was particularly catty.

With his penchant for trolling apparently on ice, the Canadian artist (real name Joel Zimmerman) should have a distraction-free period to complete work on his forthcoming album release. “It’s the holidays, so ill slow things down until the new year, and chill out with friends and loved ones on vacation till the 17th or so. Then it’s back into the new studio, where ill just keep being me, and making music,” he wrote.
Deadmau5 has tentatively targeted a January completion date for his next album, the follow-up to his 2014 set While(1<2), which opened at No. 9 on the Billboard 200.
