He said on Wednesday 10 percent of the works on the expressway, to be implemented in three phases, has already been done.

“People involved in the project have assured me that all works will be finished by 2019 though the deadline is 2020,” he added.

While inspecting the piling works of the project at Kurhil, the minister told reporters that ‘several important works’ of the project, including land acquisition and ‘test piling’, have been done.

Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited is investing in the Tk 89.40 billion project under public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement.
The 19.73-kilometre expressway will run from Shahjalal International Airport to Kutubkhali via Mohakhali, Moghbazar, Kamalapur and Jatrabarhi to connect the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.
Quader said the installation of utility lines on its 7.45-kilometre part has been done under the supervision of Bangladesh Army.
Fifty percent of the land required for the first phase has been handed over to the project executing agency and the works on the main structure will begin on Aug 16, he said.
