LBA: The Psychology of Lens Buying Addiction
Posted By: psychdoc, 10-31-2010, 10:10 AM

This article contains a few pictures and clip art so it is posted as a series of 3 jpeg files below:

The above article was 'inspired' by this forum and by a project called Single in September that took place in the Pentax Forums in September 2010. The objective was to take a single picture everyday in September using only a single lens as a therapy for LBA!!

One result of that challenge was a book:

Took a look at the preview of the book on blurb:

Yes, the 'Single in'...Challenges are so focused on what you can get out of different lenses that it can do that. I bought 2 lenses after the first one I participated in. I stopped doing those challenges. But it was really b.c I did not have the time.

In the past, in music, have been suffering from GAS ... I recently healed and now I'm sick of LBA ...
These damn forms of addictions, however, take me away from what should be my main goals: make music or photography.
I've spent several hours on the web for reading reviews and looking for the best deal, they just take time away from my hobbies ...
I hope to recover soon from LBA too!

That was totally me. After spending some time looking through that part of the forums, I'd regularly find myself with a cart load on B&H or prowling the Marketplace. Luckily, I've gained some semblance of control in the last couple of years and my LBA isn't so bad.

This a very important subject that should be discussed periodically in forums of different hobbies around the internet.

It's so easy nowadays to get caught up in consumerism and spending, and I feel that a humorous wake up call such as this one is a good way to have people questioning their behaviour and focus on the objectives that really matter.
