New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued an order on Monday stating that use of pressure horns would not be permitted for any vehicle in Delhi and NCR.
“The noise pollution arising out of undue and unlawful use of horns by drivers -- particularly the use of pressure horns by drivers of trucks and other heavy vehicles -- is a source of serious concern in Delhi,” the order stated.

The tribunal also directed Delhi Development Authority, Delhi government, Delhi Pollution Control Committee and ministry of environment to file detailed affidavits placing on record their “suggestions and the methodology” for controlling the pressure horn menace.
A notice has been issued to the ministry of transport as well. The green body also observed that noise barriers put up on flyovers were in a damaged condition and at a number of flyovers, no sound barrier or walls have been put up at all.
“Two wheelers which have pressure horns or those without silencers should not be permitted to ply in NCR and Delhi,” the order stated.
“The authorities also have to submit their report stating whether the silence zones have been identified in Delhi or not and if not, a complete and comprehensive proposal for declaring and identifying the silence zone should be placed before the tribunal on the next date of hearing,” the order added.
