A Cracker Barrel patron was about to pay for his food when his gun fell from its holster, hit the ground and fired at another patron, deputies say.

The incident occurred at the restaurant chain’s Hickman Drive location, which is in unincorporated Sanford, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said.

The man was headed toward the register when his gun fell and fired a single round into another man’s calf, said spokeswoman Kristen Bentsen in an email. The man was carrying the gun legally, she noted.

The injury sustained by the man who was shot was considered non-life-threatening, Bentsen said, and he was transported to Central Florida Regional Hospital.

Deputies and investigators arrived to the scene to help the fire department, Bentsen said. Investigators interviewed witnesses, she added.

“Preliminary information suggested the shooting was accidental,” she said.

Criminal charges were not expected, she added.
