A man who was fatally shot in southwest Denver Saturday morning has been identified.

Jose Frias-Olivas, 61, was fatally shot in the area of Harvard Gulch West Park, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.

Frias-Olivas left his daughter’s home to go for a morning walk and was later found, at about 10:20 a.m., shot at the intersection of West Vassar Avenue and South Federal Boulevard, according to the Denver Police Department.

On Tuesday, his daughter and grandson were among family member’s grieving his death at the park.

Frias-Olivas, who just retired from a job in Mexico, had come to Denver to attend his daughter’s wedding, family told KCNC Channel 4.

Maria Frias, his daughter, said their grieving family is at a loss as to why someone would have shot him.

Frias-Olivas was pronounced dead at the scene. The case is being investigated as a homicide, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720 913-7867.
