Child Marriage. When we want to know why child marriage persists, we do more than read reports on it – we engage with women who were once married as children and those vulnerable enough to marry their daughters (too) early. This qualitative evidence gathering is crucial for us to understand the work we are doing and designing strategies to effectively protect children. #childmarriage #childprotection #inclusiveconsultations   Lorsque nous voulons comprendre pourquoi le mariage des enfants persiste dans les villages reculés du Népal, nous faisons plus que simplement lire des rapports à ce sujet - nous consultons des femmes qui ont été mariées enfants et celles qui sont suffisamment vulnérables pour marier leurs filles (trop) tôt. Ce recueil de données qualitatives est cruciale pour comprendre le travail que nous faisons et concevoir des stratégies pour protéger efficacement les enfants.

Combatting Cross-Border Child Sex Trafficking in South Asia through Project MUKTI South Asia ECPAT Luxembourg’s partners from India and Nepal, collaborating under Project MUKTI South Asia funded by the US State Department's Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons J/TIP, underwent essential training to tackle operational challenges and devise targeted interventions. Topics such as victim rehabilitation, trauma management, and counseling were covered, empowering partners to enhance the services they provide for victims. #crossbordertrafficking #VictimServices #childsextrafficking

Finally got my hands on this! Good practices in combating orphanage trafficking / trafficking of children in child care homes in Nepal under the Together for Protection project, implemented by ECPAT Luxembourg asbl with support from the US Department of State. I am particularly proud of writing this one because I actually worked on the project combating orphanage trafficking since the end of 2021. It was a journey full of learning, challenges, and reflections, and this is a documentation of that, hoping others can keep the fight going. My sincerest gratitude to Deepa Limbu-Subba Amrita Poudyal and Neeva Pradhan for the support and opportunity, but more importantly, for being the inspiration!

At ECPAT Luxembourg, we walk the talk ! Today we present 5 women at ECPAT Luxembourg who lead the organization with vision and determination, but also with empathy and large doses of good humour. We come from diverse backgrounds and we have made that diversity our strength. This difference nurtures our reflections on the work we do, and how we do it. It helps us to never forget how wonderfully enriching an environment that promotes diversity and allows women to lead can be. We hope that our work, guided by this lived experience, reflects well the values that we uphold as an organization. Project: APSARA – Addressing sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in the adult entertainment sector in Kathmandu, Nepal Exciting update from our community meetings! We joined forces with key stakeholders – restaurant owners, trade unions, and government representatives – to address critical issues faced by workers in the entertainment and hospitality sectors. Together, we tackled challenges such as low wages and the absence of job security. After our discussions, all participants gained valuable insights into the protections afforded by the 2017 Labor Act, including minimum wage standards and workplace harassment prevention. Local leaders are committed to implementing a minimum wage structure, and our Chief District Officer is onboard to review monitoring guidelines. Nous avons uni nos forces avec les principaux acteurs - les propriétaires de restaurants, les syndicats et les représentants du gouvernement - pour aborder les problèmes critiques auxquels sont confrontés les travailleurs des secteurs du divertissement et de l'hôtellerie. Ensemble, nous avons relevé des défis tels que les bas salaires et l'absence de sécurité de l'emploi. Après nos discussions, tous les participants ont acquis de précieuses informations sur les protections offertes par la loi du travail de 2017, notamment les normes de salaire minimum et la prévention du harcèlement en milieu de travail. Les dirigeants locaux se sont engagés à mettre en place une structure de salaire minimum, et notre Chef de district est prêt à examiner les directives de surveillance. Empowering Adolescent Girls as Powerful Community-Based Actors of Change Project MUKTI (Freedom) South Asia Funded by the US Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (J/TIP)   ECPAT Luxembourg intervenes in villages of Sahebgunj district, Jharkhand, India to strengthen community based mechanisms to prevent cross-border trafficking of children for sexual purposes. In association with Jharkhand-based local organization – Jharkhand Vikash Parishad – it has established 14 adolescent groups (9 girls' groups and 5 boys' groups). These adolescent groups serve as anti-human trafficking clubs, a community-based protection mechanism. Our goal is to enhance and empower club members to contribute to enhancing the safety of the environment where children live by raising community awareness on child protection and trafficking of children for sexual purposes in particular. The project organizes trainings of trainers to equip these adolescents with necessary knowledge and skills to roll out awareness-raising activities within their communities.

Rencontre avec la mairie de Porto Novo, sur l'île de Santo Antão au Cabo Verde. Nous exprimons notre gratitude au Maire de la commune, Dr. Aníbal Fonseca, ainsi qu'à la Conseillère en charge de la petite enfance, Mme Maísa Pinto, pour leur accueil chaleureux lors de notre réunion de travail, le 6 février 2024. Depuis 2017, ECPAT Luxembourg soutient activement l'Association des Enfants Défavorisés (ACRIDES), s'engageant à renforcer les partenariats pour la promotion et la défense des droits de l'enfant, notamment contre les abus et l'exploitation sexuelle. La collaboration avec la commune et les acteurs locaux, en particulier la municipalité en tant que pouvoir local, est cruciale pour la mise en œuvre effective des Droits de l'Enfant. Au cours de notre visite, nous avons également eu l'opportunité de rencontrer les bénéficiaires des Activités Génératrices de Revenus (AGR). We would like to thank the Mayor of Porto Novo, Dr. Aníbal Fonseca, and the Councillor for Early Childhood, Ms. Maísa Pinto, for the warm welcome they extended to us during our visit to the island on February 6th. Since 2017, ECPAT Luxembourg has been supporting the Association des Enfants Défavorisés (ACRIDES). Together, we are committed to strengthening local partnerships for the promotion and defense of children's rights, especially against sexual abuse and exploitation. For the effective implementation of these rights, cooperation with the community and local actors, especially the municipality as the local authority, is crucial. Empowering Girls in Nigeria As part of an anti-human trafficking initiative in Nigeria, our partners in Edo and Delta State - Girls Power Initiative and Uromi Justice Development – sensitize and provide trainings to secondary school girls to enable them to assume roles of peer-educators in their schools. This approach, which prioritizes the participation of girls in the implementation of the project, has proven to amplify the coverage and impact of our awareness-raising initiative and reinforced efforts to promote community-based initiatives to combat human trafficking in Edo and Delta State.   Dans le cadre du projet au Nigéria de lutte contre la traite des êtres humains, nos partenaires - Girls Power Initiative et Uromi Justice Development - des États d'Edo et de Delta sensibilisent les lycéennes et organisent des formations qui leur permettent de jouer le rôle de pairs éducateurs dans leurs lycées. Cette approche, qui priorise la participation des filles dans la mise en œuvre du projet, a permis d'amplifier la couverture et l'impact de notre initiative de sensibilisation et de renforcer nos efforts visant à promouvoir des initiatives locales pour lutter contre la traite des êtres humains dans les États d'Edo et de Delta.
