Mischa Barton’s Instagram post about Alton Sterling was the most insensitive thing in the history of the Internet

On July 5, 2016, Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old black man was fatally shot several times at close range while held to the ground by two Baton Rouge Police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The shooting was caught on camera by a witness, sparking protests and riots across the country, reigniting the contentious issues surrounding the police killings of African-Americans. Sterling was reportedly selling CDs outside of the Triple S Food Mart in Baton Rouge, Louisiana when a homeless person reported that he used a gun to threaten someone outside the convenience store. A civil rights investigation was immediately opened by the Department of Justice following the incident.

Mike McClanahan, of the local NAACP, called for the two police officers involved in the shooting of Alton Sterling to be arrested. "I'm calling on anybody in this city with a backbone to go arrest those two officers," McClanahan said.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said uninformed officers responded to a call at a convenience store early on Tuesday about a black man in a red shirt who was selling CDs and had reportedly threatened the caller with a gun. The officers reportedly made contact with Sterling in a parking lot and the altercation ensued.

The family of Alton Sterling, a black man who was fatally shot by Baton Rouge police, appeared at a press conference this morning, along with NAACP leaders, to call for the police chief to step down and have the police officers involved in the incident to be charged.

While you’re at it, Mischa, why don’t you defecate on the American flag in the center of St. Patrick’s Cathedral during a 9/11 memorial.

Because that might be the only thing worse than actress Mischa Barton’s ham-fingered attempt to show solidarity with recent police shooting victim Alton Sterling and, by extension, Philando Castile.

In a now-infamous Instagram post Thursday morning, the “O.C.” star paired some heartfelt text about the deaths with a cheesecake photo of herself.

Drinking a cocktail.

On a yacht!

It’s the visual equivalent of Adolf Hitler typing “LOL” on the bottom of a picture of Auschwitz’s ovens spewing ashes into the air.

“I’m truly heart broken to watch videos like the #altonsterling execution,” Barton wrote in the since-deleted post. “This may have been going on forever in the United States but thank god the pigs get caught on camera now. Its unthinkable and an embarrassment to America. The country I was brought up in. Somebody make change. We need gun control and unity. And a real President so think about that when this election is around the corner. The world is a precarious place right now.#stop #reflect and #act appropriately.”

Act appropriately? Fortunately, Barton’s feed was filled with commenters pointing out that the lady doth protest too stupidly.

“Sweet Jesus, this is some tone-deaf rich person s–t right here,” posted mediahostage, summarizing the feelings of many.

Let’s try — for a second — to give Barton the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps she felt the picture would make the point that she’s ashamed of her white privilege. Because what better demonstrates white sympathy towards the Black Lives Matter movement than offering the deceased a cocktail on a yacht?

Or perhaps she chose the black bikini because she’s truly in mourning.

And maybe that’s an honest look of grief on the stunning star’s face and not merely a glimmer of sadness upon hearing a servant tell her that there’s no more gin in the galley.

Perhaps we’ll never know. Barton’s publicist did not respond to an email seeking an explanation.

Update: Barton apologized for the post on Friday.
