Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Won't be at E3 - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 18 May 2015 / 4,088 Views

Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata will not be making it to E3 next month. This is the second year in a row he will be missing the event.

The following is a statement from Nintendo:

"Nintendo’s focus for E3 this year will be showcasing the many games we have coming for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Mr. Miyamoto and other members of our development team will be in Los Angeles to explain these games and the unique experiences that each offers. Mr. Iwata’s focus in this period will be on other areas of our business that require his presence in Japan."

Thanks IGN.

Is the same as the last year, and Nintendo had the best E3 in a long time.

It's quite clear he is far worse than they are letting on. The last few directs and the day he announced the NX he looked extremely sick. I don't necessarily think he's dying but it's clear he's not a well man. Hopefully he gets better soon.

It's like they are writing off North and South America.

Well the Directs have been doing good for them. However, I would have liked to see Nintendo make an appearance at E3. Seems like they're done with E3.

They were there, but not on STAGE/Live conference . They will be helding interviews from various reporters, and maybe in the Nintendo Treehouse thing too.

I don't think we'll ever see Nintendo back at E3, or Iwata making public appearances at all in future. Nintendo have gotten into their head that their awful Direct videos are substantial enough to replace conferences like E3 or interacting with the press in general (In Europe, Nintendo almost never talk to the press except to deny the company is in trouble). The reason Sony and Microsoft succeed where Nintendo didn't is because they run live keynotes to announce their latest products, which are watched and reported on by thousands. Apple has done the same through the Jobs era and beyond, and their products have become legendary as a result.

What? Last year the press and everyone were gushing over the Nintendo Digital Event. And their live Treehouse coverage and floor presence were huge successes. Nintendo's approach to E3 last year was a home run. I heartily agree most of Nintendo's promotion strategies are bad, but their E3 last year was a major exception. If they execute in a similar fashion this year, they will have a very successful E3.

I agree. Nintendo Direct only benefits Nintendo fans. People who are not in Nintendo have no idea of what is going on. Why they would not want to reach out the masses is strange. They treat it like they are the bomb and we must go to them for news....well here's some News Nintendo. It ain't happening..I very pleased with Sony...

^ ummmm i dont know if you were ALIVE last year, after the N direct all of the popular gaming sites released individual articles about what Nintendo showed in the Direct. Same thing AFTER SONY, MICROSOFT and the others live conference. GAMERS will hear what each company will show.
