| Hm, i like what you've got there....more, more i say!
Oh, and what about ceadeus theme? It's really one of the best ones in tri IMO (even if the fight is just a drag after the first time).

I'll definitely see if I can add that. I won't be able to give it epic choirs like in the original but the theme is amazing and I've got to try and incorporate that too! Glad you like it so far.

| ^_^ I love this so much. Please continue your work. This is a masterpiece in progress and it shouldn't be stop. (In my opinion)
I'm loving the setup the music is ending with like big BOOM. Hard right turn and you see yourself into a fight...
AH. I just had a pretty awesome vision on how that music could work. =D
EDIT: My vision on what i'm seeing just on this music is back the hill you stand on in Deserted Island, area 1. The sun is rising over the hills and a man comes to the screen, arms across and not necessarily in armor (Picturing more of Loc Lac clothes) And him walking and enjoying the scenery before it switches over to the other side of him, which his body is covering the screen at the turn and shows a monster that is preparing to fight.
That's all I could think of before the end came in. I keep thinking over on the right monster. First Great Jaggi but he's not really as fearsome.
But I'm for sure seeing deserted Island because the music in the beginning just reminds me of alive, fresh, green environment.

| You guys are awesome. Thanks for all this feedback! I'll be sure to credit each and every person who posts feedback if I ever finish this. I've continued a tiny bit more, but I'm in a bit of a dilemma. Right before the song goes all epic with the main theme, I'm not sure whether to slow down a little in tempo or not (ritenuto for the music nerds :P). Here's the version with the slowing down at 0:40, and here is the version without it. If any of you could tell me which is more fitting in your opinion, please do! My brother said the slowing down feels unnatural, but I'd rather get a few second opinions. - Luciarn wrote:

Keep working on it! Can't wait for the full version /yes/ Hey like I said, no guarantees that there will be a full version, but I'm fairly sure there will be, haha. Cliffhanger has been resolved thankfully in the above version! Thanks for the insight. - Lou Urau wrote:

I love this so much. Wow thanks! Really glad you like it man. I see EXACTLY where you're going with that vision; something majestic and massive like deserted island is certainly the scene that was imprinted in my head when I made that intro. Man, if I had a capture card and any video-editing skills whatsoever, I'd totally try and make some sort of music video with snippets from Monster Hunter cut scenes and gameplay to fit the music, but alas, I don't have a capture card (or know how to use one) and I can't edit videos to save a life... Thanks again for the feedback!

| For me, it depends on what's following these two examples, and how long you want this to be. For a song some 3~5 minutes, an epic crescendo following the slowing down at :40 seconds would be appropriate, the common structure of the song then being higher-mid tempo to high tempo till somewhere around the 4:30-5:00 minute mark, then slowly fading out at the end. If this is gonna be longer than that (somewhere around 7:30~10:00 minutes), I think the alternative version would be more suitable, to tease your way into the ''muscle'' of the song. As for the structure of a longer song, really, you can do just about anything with the structure, loads of twists and turns, a consistant instrumental melody (normally pleasant, contemplative or mournful in my experience), techincal ''showmanship'' (with a Monster Hunter Medley, I can see this being difficult lol, as the melodies are normally simpler than that), anything you do so please.
Btw, sorry if none of what I've said makes any sense (and there's a good chance of that). I don't actually study music, and this is just from personal experience listening to music, lol.

| Personnally I'd go for the ritenuto if you plan on developing the main theme more. The main theme has a certain grace to it, very smooth with long-stretched notes, and if I humm the whole theme, I find it sounds better if you slow it down a bit (better lead up and stuff) Just my opinion though Also, something's a bit weird at second 32/33. at some point, it seems like something just suddenly disappears or gets suddenly very quiet... is that intentional or is that just me? Else... great work! and please keep it up, I'd actually pay to get a full song, and it sounds darn epic! :D | |

| @Slyffer, I see precisely what you mean. You know, I think I'll follow your advice. I don't plan on developing the Tri theme much more (except adding another four bars) but if I add a ritenuto now then it will start making future ritenutos lose their effect. I should probably leave one or two ritenutos for the really big climaxes of the medley. - Luciarn wrote:

I'm not going to explain why that's happening because it's a long story but I'll just say that those ears of yours are really good! I'll see if I can fix that. Thanks a million for the suggestions, everyone. Please keep them coming!

| I thought about it and another thing came to mind that COULD work. Instead of the a single monster and single hunter.
Shows four of Hunters this time in just armor. And the screen turns as they walk and it shows with them and their weapons out. In front of them. All monsters in Tri in a standing position in a line, as if to start the battle. The weakest on the sides and it all goes to the middle to the hardest. (Not Jhen LOL! That would be scary to Jhen out of the desert and not on a boat. He'd be trolling the entire island.)
This is to show one of the monster in the game that they'll see? Because the most powerful in Deserted Island is...um...well, I'm not sure on that. Lagiacrus, Rathalos and Deviljho reside there. Lagia and Rath have a grudge on each other, and Jho just wants to eat everything.
Lagia vs. Jho = Maybe Lagia (Due to thunder attacks) Lagia vs. Rath = I would tell you if I knew Rath vs. Jho = Deviljho wins.
But since Lagiacrus is flagship, i guess that would be the right one since Lagiacrus is seen in 5 on the repel mission of his. Which would maybe be one of the Rath's.
And as for the edits. I'm confused. I think I listened to the Alternate version and it only gave 13 seconds of the song, which it started with a loud BON sound.
As for the 53 second version. I'm not sure right now but i'll listen to it and see how I can picture the vision on Deserted Island.
Sorry if i'm just jabbering a lot. I'm just a big fan of instrumental music and classic. So I like to picture the scene for the music in my own way. Requiem for a dream an example for it.

| While I don't listen to the Monster Hunter music much admittedly (I'll often have some form of metal playing, either known stuff or stuff I'm checking out), one thing I noticed that you could use, if you could isolate it, is during the intro to the Alatreon, where at the very end he rears and stamps down, three gysers of lava emitting from the Sacred Land floor. The three gysers make a sort of thumping noise not dissimilar to a drumming. I've often heard soft thumping noises during instrumentals in the lower parts, so if you could (and I say that with an invisible question mark, 'cus like I've said, I'm no student of music and simply go by ear) tweak the volume of the noises, it could be something to use by itself something during the medley. | |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=VKJTQkb4krM Man that's pretty cool. I wish I could make some sort of music video like that too. The song is a little repetitive though. Also obvious z3ta+ preset at 1:58 :3. @Lou Urau that glitch is pretty odd. I know about that BON sound - it's an MP3 export glitch, but it shouldn't be 13 seconds long. Your scene descriptions are really tempting me to find someone who can make some sort of music video for this though haha. @Slyffer that's a nice idea but those sound effects are most likely copyrighted and I'd rather not use any copyrighted sounds in my track, especially since I'm thinking of posting this on YouTube and Newgrounds. Better be safe than sorry!

| Sounds awesome! (odd little sound's still there, but somehow it strikes me less, is that normal? :P) Anyway it sounds awesome, very airy, very epic!^^ For the ceadeus theme... well the music is more menacing and darker, so you'll have to go down an octave or two (do you say octave in english?), drag the notes longer etc... Like... some notes, going deeper and deeper, all deep and brooding, and then heavy drums filling in and the wind instruments, leading to a short intro of the first part of the battle, with a crescendo culminating in the second battle phase with the chorus and all?
...
Does any of that make sense?

Yes that's VERY normal. I tried fixing it but I still haven't fixed it 100%. Man, you've got a competent pair of ears there, it's like you're peeking into my project file or something. D: - Luciarn wrote:

Does any of that make sense? Yes it does! Also yeah, you DO say octave in English :P. However I'm afraid I've decided I don't think I've got the skills to take on the actual battle theme of the Ceadeus. Its defining feature is the use of that choir and my choir samples don't go anywhere near to that quality (hell, judging from how it sounds it's most likely actual recorded singing) so replicating it with my own choirs is out of the question. That leaves me the option of replicating it with another instrument and I don't think I'll be able to do that well. I'll probably just stick to this theme. My problem is trying to make a decent transition to it so I've got to try and turn the song from majestic and epic to dark and mystical as you said, which will be tough. After that I'm going to see if I can take a shot at this theme and the village theme since those are two of my favourites and my brain is telling me that they'll sound good with each other. Anyway we'll see what happens. Thanks a lot to you three for all the great advice/feedback!

| Mhm. Well, i'm listening to the latest version of the song. I'm trying to picture a vision. So far, my idea is the normal walking through on hill on Area 1 to 5 to see Lagiacrus. Standing high and fearsome before going to another screen. That's all I got right now. I'll do more thinking. I'll try to mix in with Online Loc Lac also.
Edit: Ok. I did some listening. I'm really having some trouble on where to go on the part where Lagiacrus would show up. It's sorta blank. But I did think about if the hunter was swimming and confront Lagiacrus (Just like the cover on the case) Then, i saw the screen going back and showing the landscape.
Then it is seems to be showing some of the other areas, sometimes showing a monster that lives there. Then at the end, I'm just picturing the cieama of the Hunters after fighting Jhen Morhan. The Ecology video. But at the end where they walk in with victory. And i think it would be around the 1:13 mark. And the last 7 or 6 seconds, the title screen of Monster Hunter Tri would show up. More or less on the time. I'd have to figure out how long it takes for the sign to come in like on the Intro movie.
What do you think? | |

What do you think? I love the idea of incorporating Jhen into it and the the title screen, but I'm thinking that if we're ever going to do this video, then I think it's a better to only take snippets of cutscenes from the game rather than actual recordings because recording yourself playing MH is tough and not many people can do it whereas using YouTube downloader to take the cutscenes out of YouTube is a lot easier (hell, even I can do it). Based on your ideas, here's what I think we can do for a music video. Perhaps this has too much Jhen in it so we might try and incorporate the Lagiacrus somehow first, but I dunno. 0:00 - 0:13 - Blackness. I'm liking the idea. ^^ Though the title screen will be coming up during the same time as 1:18-1:28? And when Jhen slams into the ship, making the big sand mushroom. Your gonna make it go to where they are already walking? or maybe keep that video going to show them coming or something like that. I'm like the idea though

| This sounds good. If you plan to keep the part at the end of your latest version where the music trails off before moving into another theme (like the Ceadeus theme), I think a drum roll would sound cool. A quiet drum roll starts right when the music starts to go soft at about 1:24, keeping a constant tempo, then it could either pick up in speed or crescendo/decrescendo and finish off with a quick snare tap right before the next theme begins. | |
