Overview
We have four committees to get involved with:
Communications - Help us get the word out about AVDS.
Operations - Network with campus organizations, programs and departments; analyze data on AVDS events.
Education - Organize and promote educational events about diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Events - Coordinate events that will build community.
We are also in the process of establishing two new committees (not depicted above yet):
Policy - Aid the AVDS Board with our partnerships with administrators to change policies relating to racial equity.
Faculty - A new committee specifically for Faculty who want to raise their voices in support.
Each committee has sub-committee coordinators, who organize specific events/activities. For example, our Recruitment Coordinator (part of the Education Committee) organizes AVDS tabling during graduate program recruitment season. Committee members help the coordinators complete tasks. General volunteers (not depicted above) are not assigned to a specific committee, and will receive emails when AVDS is looking for single-event volunteers.
If you have been on the steering committee for a minimum of 6 months, you can apply for Board positions. Our board has a decentralized power structure, meaning all board members carry equal executive power. Major decisions are made by voting. Board members are elected to 13-month year terms in June. Join now if you want to apply for these positions next year!
If you are limited on time, sign up as a General Volunteer and we will contact you when we need extra hands. Every bit helps. :)
Thanks again!
