Thank you for taking the time to fill out our survey! This should only take about 5 minutes of your time (unless you really want to write an essay in your answers).
We hope you were able to enjoy our presentation at OLA Super Conference in January; in case you missed it or if you want a refresher, all of our Best Bets lists - including the newest 2015 lists, as well as all of our previous years winners - are available on the OLA website:
http://goo.gl/wvgzE6In case you aren’t fully aware of who the OLA Best Bets Committee is and what we do:
Each year the OLA Best Bets Committee selects the top Canadian picture books, fiction and non-fiction for children, and fiction and non-fiction for teens that were written in the prior year (at Super Conference we presented our list of titles that were published in 2015). Depending on how many graphic novels are potential contenders and their merit, there may or may not be a separate category for this style, otherwise it is included in fiction. Books are selected on the basis of their literary merit as well as their appeal to the intended audience. Illustrations are also considered in the case of graphic novels, picture books and non-fiction if appropriate.
For each category, the Committee will select up to 10 titles to be included in our Best Bets list; if there are not 10 titles that we feel warrant the award, there may be fewer titles in a given list. We also may or may not include Honourable Mentions - these are books that weren't quite Best Bets, but the Committee felt they were solid reads and deserved to be shared with the community to increase recognition.
We are currently working on building awareness of our Committee and the lists we produce. In order to best determine what areas we need to focus on, we would appreciate your assistance.
And so, without further ado...
