Waitakere KCC booking form - Postponed until Saturday September 24 @ 10:30am : Kura Track Walk and Hunt for Pupurangi (kauri snail)
We will walk part of the Kura track, starting from Whatipu carpark, where we have been advised that we are likely to find pupurangi. Come and learn more about NZ’s giant carnivorous snail. Also it will be fun to spot eels swimming in the waterways.

Remember that the last 9km of the drive to Whatipu is on a narrow gravel road, take care and allow enough travel time.

The start to the Kura track is on the right hand side of the road just before the bridge which takes you over the road to the Whatipu Lodge entrance. As there is a car park at the start of the track we will meet here instead of the main Whatipu car park at 10:30.

As the track runs alongside a small river and in fact crosses it several times, we must ask for an adult child ratio of 1 to 3 if the children are over 5. I wouldn't recommend bringing younger children as the track is a bit tricky in places. However if you do bring children under 5 there must be one adult per child under 5. This is because of the proximity to water.

We will be walking around 40 minutes in and 40 mins out with a stop for a picnic. Please bring supplies, water, sun and/or rain protection and adequate footwear . Be prepared to get muddy and to cross a small river. A change of clothes would be recommended as you may get wet.

Lets hope for a fine day and that the pupurangi are out and snailing about.
