Aotearoa Surf Film Festival 2016 - Film Submission Form
Calling all innovative storytellers and surf filmmakers!

Welcome to the 3rd annual Aotearoa Surf Film Festival to be held in March 2015. Aotearoa is the native Maori word for New Zealand, yes our small country of kiwi’s often thought to be in Europe but sometimes mistaken for another state of Australia. As a small pacific nation with our roots deeply connected with the native forefathers of surfing and an infinite coastline, we are a country of surf enthusiasts and ocean lovers. In order to keep the surf masses happy across our small coastal communities, we
are pleased to announce the return of New Zealand's international surf film festival competition and would like to open up the
official call for submissions from surf filmmakers across the world.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
As filmmakers ourselves we understand that entering festivals can be demanding. So in true kiwi fashion we like to keep
things as simple as possible. No submission fees and simple digital film delivery. Check out our two step process:

1. Take a look at the entry rules, then fill out all your details and hit submit!
2. Upload your digital file via Vimeo (password protected or wetransfer) or similar streaming platform only

Really is as simple as that!

KEY SUBMISSION DATES
Call for submissions opens: Thursday, November 13th, 2014
Close of submissions: Monday, December 20th, 2014
Official selection announced: January 14th

ENTRY ELIGIBILITY
Feature Films: 20 minutes or longer
Short Films: Under 20 minutes

We accept all films that celebrate the art of wave riding and surf culture.

FILM DELIVERY
Rather than multiple entries we prefer a single HD digital film entry rather than traditional DVDs or harddrive. Due to the demanding selection process and New Zealand’s isolated location (think expensive shipping) we will keep all entries digital only, via streaming platforms. Please do not send any other formats. We ask that you ensure that the streaming link you send us is password protected to ensure piracy protection for your film. Please send us one of the following:
- Vimeo.com password protected file
- Wetransfer.com download link
- Dropbox.com shared folder or download link
- Reelhouse.org password protected screener

WE DO NOT ACCEPT HARD DRIVE DELIVERY

We do prefer digital transfer and as such if the file can fit within the 5GB allowance for Vimeo or Wetransfer this will be
most appreciated.

ONLINE TRAILER
For all feature films we require that a link to an online trailer for the film is provided, with details in the entry form on the
back page. If your film is selected we will use this trailer on the ASFF website for promotion of the film and festival. We
do require that all online trailers are Vimeo links.

is selected for the festival, a representative will contact you to acquire 3 hi-resolution still images for the marketing of
the film and festival.

AWARDS
No film festival would be complete without awards! Our team is currently deciding on the final categories as well as some prizes for the award winning films. These will be made public on the ASFF website and facebook in December. Once our screening panel has convened and the official selection has been made the award winning films will be announced in mid January.
