Available Courses:

* Online Safety  and how to become a 360 Degree Safe School
Dates TBC

This course will start with a look at the Computing Curriculum and how and where Online Safety should be taught.  We will touch on a range of resources for teaching Online Safety.  We will take a look at the Safeguarding aspects of Online Safety and using the 360 Safe online tool we will work together to complete this for your school.  This free tool will help you to gain a snapshot of where you school is now and also help inform an action plan to help your school further develop Online Safety.
Attendees will need to bring their own laptop to the training and also create a 360 Degree Safe account online at http://www.360safe.org.uk/  It may be that your school is already registered.  If so but no-one knows the login details please contact 360 safe and they will assist BUT you will need to check this at least a week prior to training.

* KS2 Progression and Assessment
Dates TBC

Attendees of this course will have the opportunity to consider teaching progression and assessment for KSS Computing.  We will look at record keeping post Levels.  Are you working towards, achieving or exceeding?   Attendees will get the chance to evaluate several different approaches to progression and assessment and work during the afternoon to pull together their own system to use in their school.
Attendees must bring their own laptop.  If schools have already adopted a scheme please bring this with you so we can see how it would dovetail with these approaches.

* Teaching Scratch Beyond the Basics
Dates TBC

This course will be hands-on with Scratch version 2.0 (as used in the Rising Stars Switched on Computing scheme).  The focus is to take Scratch programming beyond the basics to introduce areas of the KS2 Computing Curriculum such as variables and selection into Scratch programming via quizzes and games.  We will include a variety of inputs and outputs and consider ways of extending Scratch even further.  It is a course intended for those with existing basic Scratch knowledge.  Attendees will create their own example quizzes and basic games.  We will learn to introduce the game design process to pupils, and consider extension opportunities to stretch the more-able students further.
Attendees will leave the course with a bank of example programs and support materials for on-going assistance.
Attendees will need to bring their own laptop, and if possible install Scratch 2 offline editor from https://scratch.mit.edu/scratch2download/ prior to the course.

* KS2 Computing Programming Devices Course
Dates TBC

This course will take a look at a variety of hardware which can be used alongside the laptop or iPad to support teaching of the PROGRAMMING aspects of the KS2 Computing Curriculum.  It will include hands-on time with the hardware learning how to use each item to teach aspects of the KS2 Computing Curriculum in exciting and engaging ways.  Delegates should bring a laptop and ideally an iPad with the ability to add apps (or come with specific apps pre-installed!)

* Introducing Microsoft Kodu for Programming in KS2
Dates TBC

Microsoft Kodu is FREE software to program engaging and immersive 3D games.  It gives KS2 children the opportunity to program a slightly different language.  This course will start from the basics and will give delegates the opportunity to try out some lesson ideas which can be taken back to the classroom.

* Using Arduino in Upper Key Stage 2

Arduino is cheap device for older primary children to learn to program to meet the 'controlling devices' part of the Computing Curriculum.  This is a hands-on course and delegates will get to take home a simple arduino kit alongside lots of lesson ideas.
