POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT SITES
There are 16 pieces of land listed below that developers may consider building on. If we identify what we want each piece of land to be used for the Planning department will be required to take this into consideration when reviewing a developers planning application. Tell us how each piece of land should be used. You MUST include at least 2 areas for housing, at least 2 areas for industry and at least 2 areas for recreation

(Industry includes shops, warehouses and factories, Recreation includes parks, woodlands, playing fields, tracks, gardens, sports buildings, allotments etc., housing is flats, houses, sheltered accommodation, affordable housing etc.)

You may have heard that a site for the housing has already been identified by Leeds City Council. This is their preference and not necessarily ours. Put this to one side and imagine it is YOUR decision where the housing, recreation and industry sites should be placed.
Remember to pick at least 2 of EACH TYPE - housing, recreation and industry

Study the map below to get your bearings about where each of these sites are before you start

GREENSPACE
An analysis of Leeds City Council's Greenspace Review for the Outer South East Area by Garforth Neighbourhood forum indicates to us that, using the council's own greenspace standards per 1000 people, Garforth is about 100 acres short of green amenities. What do you think?
Are there enough green spaces in and around Garforth that you can access? *
If No, where would you like to see more greenspace?
Do some of the existing green spaces need improvement? *
If yes, please explain
HOUSING
The Outer South East Area (Garforth, Swillington, Great and Little Preston, Allerton Bywater, Kippax, Ledston, Ledsham and Micklefield and surrounding fields) is expected to take its fair share of the housing that the city has to build over the next 15 years. Currently Leeds City Council is looking for sites to build 2786 additional homes in this area and this is how they intend to do it...
We believe each community has a responsibility to take it's fair share of new homes. How many of the 2800 homes do you think Garforth should take? (To the nearest hundred please) *
PARISH COUNCIL
Unlike every one of our neighbouring communities Garforth does not have a Parish Council. Garforth Neighbourhood Forum is evaluating whether to become a Parish Council.

There are a number of advantages a parish council has over a forum:
All members are elected, local and accountable,
A parish council ensures that there will be someone to take the Garforth plan forward for the next 15 years and beyond,
As a statutory body a parish council would be formally consulted on various matters,
A parish council receives a share of levy money the council takes from developers, to spend solely for the benefit of Garforth,
A parish council has far more legal powers than a forum,
A parish council can raise a precept to pay for specific local projects that directly benefit Garforth
A parish council can claim their VAT back.

On the other hand, some will regard a parish council as another level of bureaucracy.Others will not want to pay a precept, an additional tax.

Should Garforth have a Parish Council? *
