Faculty Perception on Employability Skills.
Sensing, the criticality and importance of "Employability", this project has been approved for an indepth- study by the One of the top most Research Organisation of Government of India.
According to Knight and Yorke employability is.....“a set of achievements – skills, understandings and personal attributes - that make graduates more likely to gain employment and be successful in their chosen occupations, which benefits themselves, the workforce, the community and the economy.
Despite the emphatic stress laid on education and training in this country, there is still a shortage of skilled manpower to address the mounting needs and demands of the economy.
The employability scenario of Indian engineering and management graduates is certainly an area of concern
Employer studies from India show that although India graduates 450,000 engineers each year, only a fraction - 25 percent - engineers and 10% management graduates possess the skills to be employable
Only one out of ten students graduating from tier 2, 3 and 4 engineering colleges is readily employable, pointing to the yawning gap between education and employability of the much-in-demand graduate pool, according to a latest survey
According to the survey, jointly carried out by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the World Bank, 64 percent of surveyed employers are "somewhat", "not very", or "not at all" satisfied with the quality of engineering graduates' skills.
Similarly, only 10%of management grduates are found to be employable by a leading study.(Aspiring Minds).
Hence, the rationale of the our study and survey questionnaire to explore the perception of Faculty's perception on the importance and significance of performance of professional graduates.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam rightly said India’s biggest crisis is not unemployment but unemployability'

The institutional framework consists of Universities established by an Act of Parliament (Central Universities) or of a State Legislature (State Universities), Deemed Universities (institutions which have been accorded the status of a university with authority to award their own degrees through central government notification), Institutes of National Importance (prestigious institutions awarded the said status by Parliament), Institutions established State Legislative Act and colleges affiliated to the University (both government-aided and –unaided).
At present, the main categories of University/University-level Institutions are :- Central Universities, State Universities, Deemed-to-be Universities and University-level institutions.
India has the third largest higher education system in the world, next only to China and the United States.Higher Education in India is one of the largest and oldest systems of higher education found anywhere in the world. As of now there are 320 Universities, of which nearly 131 are of Affiliating Universities. Besides there are deemed universities, institutions of national importance, institutes and over 15500 colleges. Together they offer a wide range of degree and diploma programs across the length and breadth of the country.
We, would be focusing on Higher Education Institutions offering and awarding Engineering and management programmes and degrees.
The purpose of the study is to explore employability skills that employers, university lecturers and graduates values and to bring to the workplace..The purpose of the work would be to enable students to acquire knowledge, concepts, skills and attitudes which will equip them to manage their careers, i.e. their lifelong progression in learning and work.
The findings from this study could be a of significant value to the Employers, Higher Educational Institutions and universities, Students and Government in producing industry ready graduates and at improving human capital capabilities. Hence, would appreciate a total support from all the constituents to this project to make it highly beneficial'
