Electing Diverse MPs Amendment

Insert after line 96:
[The Liberal Democrats will:]

D. Require the 2020 Diversity Taskforce to:

-     engage with the public to understand the perception of the Liberal Democrats on diversity issues and report back with a plan to address our deficiencies;
-     work with external bodies such as the British Council, Paradigm, a company that is focused on improving diversity in the tech industry, and winners of National Diversity Awards such as The Co-Operative Group and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, to learn best practice rather than be inward looking;
-     consider underrepresented groups beyond those six identified in the Equality Act;
-     provide compulsory training in tackling unconscious bias for party leadership and candidate selectors at local, regional and national levels and AOs and SAOs so as to create an open and fair environment for all;
-     investigate reasons beyond selection why Liberal Democrat candidates from the protected categories, in particular women, were not elected in more-winnable seats to identify barriers and institutional bias, with the Party and in society more broadly, that disadvantage these candidates;
-     and recommend practical measures that the Party will take to remove these biases and barriers so that more diverse candidates will be elected.
