I Pledge to Use Less Energy by

Turning lights off when not needed

Washing clothes on the cold cycle because it works as well as using hot water, and using a drying rack

Walking, biking or taking the shuttle instead of using a car

Using ZipCar instead of bringing my car and Signing up for 511NY ride sharing service because sharing a ride is a good thing

Putting my old clothes, shoes, dorm decor and other unwanted items in my hall's blue re-use bin

Visiting the campus free store, "FreeUse" (to get items for FREE!!!!)

I Pledge to Reduce Waste by

Composting (using the bucket in my dorm kitchen and scraping my plate into the compost bin in Kline dining hall)

Printing double sided and only when necessary

Recycling paper, cardboard, containers etc. in hall single stream bin, in addition to routing batteries, CFLs, old cell phones, ink jet cartridges and plastic bags to my EcoRep

Using reusable cups/water bottles to get my drinks at the dining hall or a reusable bag when shopping at the Green Onion Grocer, Bookstore or in nearby Tivoli & Red Hook

Getting involved in clubs and groups like BardEATS, EcoReps, Sustainability Council or create your own!

Participating in clean up and invasive plant removal days (Phight the Phrag(mites), contests (Recyclemania), outdoor education (nature walks and bike rides), and other campus events and competitions

Working on the Community Garden or Bard Farm

Volunteering to be an Eco-Rep for your residence hall! Eco-Reps are sustainable community representatives and peer educators for each dorm. Three EcoReps can be paid staff for the Bard Office of Sustainability.
