2015 EARL MARRIOTT SECONDARY SCHOLARSHIP & BURSARY APPLICATION

1.  ELIGIBILITY
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

a)  Candidates must be in Grade 12, be registered in a minimum of six (6) courses in their Grade 12 year (either at EMS or Surrey Connect) and must complete graduation requirements by June 30.

b)  Candidates must be intending to continue some form of vocational or academic training within two years of winning any award.

c)  Academic Criteria:  Candidates must have an above-average achievement record, particularly in those courses related to their future career plans.  In the past, most awards have been made to students with a "B" average or better, although a few students with an average between "B" and "C+" have received awards.  The top four (4) Grade 11 and 12 academic subjects will be considered for most, but not all, of the awards.

d)  Volunteer Activities:  Leadership, school and/or community involvement weigh heavily for the majority of awards.  The scope (depth and breadth) of involvement is important.  Paid work or course work (i.e. Work Experience/Co-Op placements) may NOT be included in this category.

e)  Financial need is another major consideration for a number of awards.  If your family is not in a position to pay for you to continue your post-secondary education and you would be unable to attend without a student loan, you may qualify for the needs-based awards/bursaries.

f)  To receive the award, winning candidates must bring proof that they have enrolled in post-secondary studies (registration in courses not deposit paid) to the school.

g)  All applicants must have a Social Insurance Number to be eligible for income tax reporting purposes.  If you do not currently have one, please apply for one as soon as possible.

2.  SELECTION OF AWARD WINNERS
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

a)  The selection of winning candidates is made by the school's Scholarship Committee.  Factors used in selecting winners include students' achievement record, extra-curricular school and community involvement, effort and financial need.  Results are made known at the Commencement Ceremony on WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 2015.  It is the expectation of the school's Scholarship Committee that each successful candidate will express their gratitude for the award provided in writing to the donors of the awards (more information will be provided later).

3.  COMPLETION OF APPLICATION FORM
