BSA requires that all scouts have either the swimming merit badge or have passed the swim test which is done at summer camp. Scouts will need money for a Sunday lunch stop coming back. Since this is a 3.5 to 4 hour drive (depending on traffic), each scout should contributing gas money to their driver.

We will have a planning meeting on Wed, 8/12 at 7:30 at Fairhaven, 12801 Darnestown Rd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878.  This will be a mandatory meeting for all.   Patrols, Patrol Leaders, Grubmasters, Patrol Q's, and menus will be determined. Payment is due by Sunday, August 2nd,  and should be turned into Terry Bernstein by dropping off or mailing to 12109 Sheets Farm Rd, North Potomac, MD 20878. There is a box out front to collect the forms and payments.

There are two rafting options available.  Both are fully guided.

Lower Yough: Must be 12 or older to choose this option.  Enjoy the beauty and sheer excitement of the Lower Yough River. The seven and a half miles of Class III and IV rapids will challenge and excite, but not intimidate even the novice rafter. The highly trained and professional staff will guide you through an exciting experience that you will not soon forget. This part of the Youghiogheny provides a great rafting experience. All tours include transportation to and from the river, all the equipment necessary for the day, and a riverside deli-style lunch. Middle Yough: Recommended for all scouts under 12.  The calm and scenic Middle Yough’s Class I and II rapids are a great introduction to whitewater rafting. By paddling the gentle waters of this nine-mile section of river, you will enjoy the unending beauty and wildlife of the Laurel Highlands. The rafts will seat from three to six rafters comfortably. All tours include transportation from the check-in area, all the equipment necessary for the day, and a riverside deli-style lunch. Additionally, guides accompany all tours to provide river assistance and entertainment, and to answer any questions you might have along the way.
