Brief Overview of MAJIC: Muslims and Jews Inspiring Change (MAJIC) offers a select group of Muslim and Jewish high school students the opportunity to build their leadership and communication skills, create lasting relations to move beyond differences and contribute to improving intergroup relations in Los Angeles.
Each year, a select cadre of teens is chosen to participate. After a fall retreat, the students meet 1-2 times per month to learn learn about Judaism and Islam together, while strengthening their relationships and learning skills in conflict resolution. Additionally, MAJICians learn how organizations in their communities respond to major social issues, and during the spring semester, students will develop their own joint Muslim-Jewish response to a social issue they deem most important. Upon completion of the fellowship, council members will be bestowed with a certificate from the City of Los Angeles in appreciation of their willingness to move beyond differences and contribute to improving intergroup relations in Los Angeles and strengthening Muslim-Jewish relations.
We are interested in applicants with demonstrated leadership skills who will also grow through our program. We accept applications and nominations for students who will be entering 10th-12th grades for the 2016-17 school year. Students of high school age who have started Community College are also encouraged to apply.
