Victoria & Albert Museum Trip -                  Sunday 27th March 2016                          Fatimah Elizabeth Cates Academy
a. Teachers will be volunteering for this trip

b. FREE – There is no fee for this trip

c. KS1 and KS2 students will be visiting the Jameel Gallery of Islamic Art to look at the Ardabil Carpet and Picnic Tile from the Safavid period, the Ottoman Chimney-Piece and the Mamluk Minbar. They will have a selection of interactive activity sheets to complete.

d. Each KS3 and KS4 group will research on the following:
1. Ottoman Art 2. Safavid Textiles 3. Islamic Metalwork and Calligraphy

e. The theme of the trip is the ‘Marvels of the Medieval and Early Modern Islamic Middle East’

f. The students and parents will have a short introduction from Ustadh Hamid and then will be set up with activities to do.

g. Timings: We will gather outside Walthamstow Central Underground Station at 9.15AM and leave for the Museum by 9:30am.

We aim to be back by 2:45pm insha’Allah – we will travel by train, so students are advised to bring their Oyster Cards

h. Parents and families who would like to join are more than welcome, we can either meet at the station for 9:15am or at the Museum for 10:30am

i. Families can stay on at the museum after the trip ends and use museum learning/family resources

j. Packed Lunch required

Meet at Walthamstow Central Station, get registered and split into groups

Arrival. Store coats and lunches.

KS1 and KS2:
Visit the Jameel Gallery of Islamic Art and split into two groups.
One group look at the Safavid Picnic Tile and the Ottoman Chimney-Piece.
The other group look at the Mamluk Minbar and the Safavid Ardabil Carpet.
Teacher will first discuss the objects with the group, and then give them a selection of worksheets to do.
KS3 and KS4:
Students to be split into three groups. Each group will research (using sheets provided) on the following for 20 minutes each:
1. Ottoman Art 2. Safavid Textiles 3. Islamic Metalwork

Students to complete Islamic Calligraphy research sheet in the Jameel Gallery.
