We have changed the platform for completing these applications, and the new form can be found at:

Applications for Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) positions are currently being accepted. Periodically, we may ask that you update your application. For those working on continuations, funding cannot be approved until reapplication and evaluation forms have both been completed (Student evaluation link - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeFy2Wc-hKVwUW1uQE46sNU6M7EP66rOhrTO7SNvDjj651BcA/viewform). For continuation funding, separate evaluation forms and continuation applications must be submitted by both the student RA and faculty adviser.

Students engaging in the REU program will get hands-on experience in conducting research alongside faculty members who are conducting original research. Exposure to the research process at an early stage in a student’s academic career is an important step in learning how to conduct independent research. Students completing this experience will make valuable connections with JMU faculty working on research topics of mutual interest. The program is open to all JMU undergraduate students who have at least one declared major in the COB.

Research tasks will be substantive and have definitive benchmarks and guidelines, and will not be simple or menial tasks. Work hours will range between 5-10 hours per week, with limitations of 10 hours in a given week during the semester. Summer research assignments are allowed more flexibility in the number of hours per week negotiated between the student and faculty leader.

Complete the following questions to apply for funding to hire a student RA position. Both students and faculty must complete separate applications for positions. Adviser-RA pairings will be completed in one of two ways. Either a student and adviser submit a mutual request, where both student and adviser are jointly accepted, or the committee will seek compatible matches if no pairing preference is given. If you have any questions, please contact Andre Neveu at neveuax@jmu.edu.

NOTE: By applying to the program, you are authorizing the sharing of your email address and other information for use within the program. Your information will not be shared outside of the university, and is only collected for the purpose of communication with respect to your eligibility in the program.
