ARMBANDS REPRESENT BALANCE IN DEVELOPMENT:
The Performance Assessment is designed to measure the overall balance of skills of the player.
The TPS (Total Performance Score) is just a continuum, the TPS range is 1-157 and is designed to show where you fall in that range. It is a tool for parents. Whereas the Armband Color is a tool for trainers to quickly know how to divide up kids in drills and Scrimmages.
We do want players to feel recognized for their expertise. But by taking this exam, there is the risk of feeling you need to improve. If your kid feels disappointed, we at least want them to know what areas are strong and where they could focus to balance things out.
Everything needed to improve is taught in our assortment of specialized skills classes. There aren't any prep courses for the Performance Assessment.
Special Note, Juggling Spoiler: Juggling tends to be an issue for many players to reach the next Level of Armband. For example, sometimes a player will get 15 juggles but only 5 are achieved in a controlled fashion. Meaning, alternating left and right foot (each time) with the ball never traveling above the waist of the player.
Because of the supreme importance that juggling represents in soccer, we have to stick to this standard and will not waiver on it. It does after all help to improve touch, two-footedness and improves sensory integration which then leads to other skills (Categories) being performed more smoothly.
If the Juggling category is missed, you will still receive the correct color that you achieved overall but you will have to retest the Juggling category (for free) within two weeks.
There is the Total Performance Score, then there is Total Performance Score Monitoring
You get your score by taking Avila Performance Assessment. That score will determine your Armband Color; with Monitoring, you can pay to receive regular written trainer feedback. It includes progress reports and a retest each month for 4 months. Learn more at
