Invited sessions are designed to share and review results in a subfield within Biological Physics using long, in-depth presentations. Invited Sessions typically include 5 talks of 36 minutes each (30 minute talk and 6 minutes for questions). DBIO only gets to organize about 8 Invited Sessions at each March Meeting. Therefore, competition for organizing these sessions is rather high, and we strive for well-attended, impactful sessions. A successful submission typically includes a detailed discussion of why the topic of the session is interesting to the DBIO community, and why it is timely. A diverse mix of junior and senior speakers, representing the diversity of the DBIO membership is encouraged. Further, a proposal should estimate the session expected attendance, and explain how this number was arrived at. Attendance numbers for the prior years' Focus/Invited Sessions with similar topics often are good predictors of the future success. Sessions with confirmed speakers will have higher probability of being chosen. Successful Invited Sessions can be paired with Focus Sessions on a similar topic, which increases attendance for both sessions.
To submit your proposal, you will need the following information:
1. proposer(s) contact information (names, email, phone, address);
2. session title/topic/advertising plans/expected attendance, and other related information;
3. rationale for having the session;
4. details of prior year similar sessions, if any;
5. details of any related Focus or Invited session proposals for this year;
6. contact information for 5 invited speakers;
7. session chair(s) contact information.
Notice that speakers that gave an invited talk at the previous March Meeting are not eligible as invited speakers. The only exception to this rule is made for award or prize winners, or for non-technical invited talks, such as education and policy talks. The list of previous invitees can be seen on:
