It’s that time of year again – time to consider volunteering for the 2016-2017 school year.  The time you volunteer at West Clay not only benefits your child, but all the children at our school.  What a great opportunity to create memories and connect with other families at West Clay!

Committees
Art Room Helpers
Chair works with the art teacher 1-2 times a month to schedule committee members to mat and help display student art.  Committee members help turn West Clay into a children's art gallery by matting and hanging up art work 1-2 times a month!  No art experience required.
Art to Remember (2016-17)/Artist in Residence (2017-18)
These programs alternate years. Art to Remember Chair: Assist the art teacher in collecting art work and forwarding to company. Committee Member:  Help chair label artwork and distribute product once it arrives.  Time Frame:  August-November  Artist in Residence: Assist art teacher in selecting and securing an artist to come and work with students (K-5) during art class over the course of a week. Will be available during that week to help as needed.  
Back to School Greeters
Time frame: 30 minutes a day for the first week of school. Greet students and help them off their bus. Walk younger students to their pods and classrooms. Assist students with any questions or problems they may have when arriving to school that first week. We need at least 15 people each day this particular week.  Chair:  Jen Petersen
Back to School Party
Timeframe: Volunteers assist in the preparation before the event and at the event itself. The chair oversees the back-to-school party by coordinating information booths and selecting the food and vendor. Volunteers are needed to assist in greeting and staffing the information booths.  Chair:  Karrissa Hains
Bingo Night
Chair will coordinate promotion, set up, and clean up of event.  Chair:  Siae Wolfangel
Birthday Books
Birthday Book Club is a program in which a student donates a book to the library in honor of his/her birthday.  The donating student then has the opportunity to be the first person to check out the book.  The Chair coordinates and oversees the process of collecting and entering donations, printing labels and assisting the birthday kids with selecting and labeling their books.  Chair:  Lynn Perkins
Book Fair
Typically held in November during the week of Family Fun Night.  The committee will work closely with the Media Specialist planning and coordinating the book fair.  Volunteers assist with setup and break down, helping students and parents with selecting books, writing wish lists and working the sales table.  Co-chairs:  Kami Mezo-Guerrier and Trisha Mulligan
Bulletin Board
Time frame: Ongoing through the school year. Volunteers assist with any bulletin board or decorating needs by the WC teachers, staff, and PTO. Create and implement unique ways to utilize the bulletin boards and bookcases in the front lobby, and coordinate the use of current bulletin boards and cases. This is great if you enjoy coming into school to help but can only do so infrequently, or have young children to bring along.  Chair:  Jo-Ann Feltman
Carnival
Typically held in March. Meet with all the carnival committees to set timeline. Oversee the carnival committee in promoting, recruiting volunteers, preparing the physical site, organizing workshops, establishing rules, and supervising all facets of the carnival.  Oversee the efforts of all subcommittees. This position is best shared, so find a friend!
Carnival Sub-committees
Several meetings plus day of carnival. Depending on sub-committee, chairs organize bake sale; arrange for food vendors and work with WC cafeteria staff; create decorations; determine games; secure individuals or companies to finance portions of the carnival cost; purchase and stock prizes; recruit, coordinate and assign volunteers; and collect wristband orders and deposit payments.
Community Rewards
Box Tops/MARSH Fresh Rewards/Pacers Games/Restaurant Nights: Time frame: Ongoing through the school year. Submit reminders to sign up and updates in WC newsletter. Track rewards programs and income from them, as well as organizing promotions to encourage participation in the programs.  Research options for new programs as they become available. Chair:  Jennifer Byers
Corporate Sponsorship
This is a new committee.  The Chair is responsible for developing relationships with groups, local businesses, and companies which may be interested in providing sponsorship for Family Fun Night and Carnival.  This includes developing incentives based on various incremental levels of sponsorship, developing sponsorship letters to send to prospective sponsors, soliciting new sponsors, obtaining electronic images/logos from sponsors to be used in promotions, receiving sponsorship funds and transferring them to the Treasurer.  Committee members will assist the Chair in these tasks.  Time frame will be ongoing throughout the year.  Chair:  Heidi Gorman
Directory
Work with the front office and West Clay families to get appropriate information populated into software. Provide access to West Clay families and provide necessary training for directory usage. Most work can be completed at home.  Chair: Trisha Mulligan
Family Fun Night
Coordinate a family fun night in November. Develop ideas for a theme, food vendor and evening activities. Chair:  Ann Busha
Fifth Grade Musical
Work with 5th grade teachers to coordinate costumes, props, programs, etc. for chosen musical.  Co-chairs:  Jen Blake and Sarah Van Bibber
Fifth Grade Recognition
Work with the 5th grade teachers to coordinate the 5th Grade Recognition ceremony and celebration.  Co-chairs:  Trisha Mulligan and Sarah Van Bibber
Flower Sale
Time frame: Spring Semester. Select a flower vendor. Publicize event. Make, distribute and collect order forms and money. Organize volunteers for flower pick-up day. Chair:  Jenny Okamoto
Friday Bakers
Time frame: Ongoing through the school year.  Each volunteer bakes 2 dozen items (muffins, cookies, etc.) and delivers them to school on 2-3 assigned Friday for the teachers and staff.  Occasionally committee members are asked to bake for other staff events.  This is a great committee for working parents and parents with young children and anyone who likes to bake.

Front Office
Time frame: Ongoing. Assist the office staff during staff meetings and busy times by answering phones, greeting visitors, etc. The Front Office staff provides training.  Chairperson sets up and monitors a SignUp Genius.  Chair:  Michele Buoscio
Hospitality
Time frame: Ongoing through the school year. The Hospitality Chair oversees a committee to provide recognition for all the staff and faculty at West Clay. Also coordinates with Room Parent Chairperson to include Room Parents in recognition activities.  This may include gifts, professional development day lunches, Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week activities, etc. Chair works with PTO Executive Board to determine schedule of recognition events.  Co-chairs:  Jenny Okamoto and Lynn Perkins
International Fair
Chairperson is a liaison and representative for West Clay Elementary.  The chairperson and other committee members will work with the committees from College Wood and Creekside Middle School to plan and execute this campus-wide event.  This current sign-up is for individuals who want to serve on the planning committee.
Kindergarten Spring Sing
Work with the kindergarten teachers to coordinate event.  Volunteers will help students make headbands in art class, decorate the kindergarten classrooms for the after parties, purchase cakes and water for the parties, and make the programs.  Event is held in May.
Lunch Room
Time frame: Ongoing through the school year. The PTO fills an important need by helping in the lunchroom. We provide friendly faces to Kg, 1st and 2nd grade children by opening milk cartons and condiment packages and helping with other various tasks.  It is also a great opportunity to see your child during the lunch hour. Work once a month, twice a month, or once a week. Chair coordinates the volunteer calendar.                                                
Maker Space
Maker Space provides students with tools and supplies to design, build, and experiment in the arenas of technology, engineering, and math.  The Maker Space Chair will assist in the purchase and maintenance of supplies for the Maker Space carts.  The Chair may also assist teachers in scheduling times to check-out the carts.  Committee Members will assist the Chair in these tasks.  Chair:  Kim Keleher
Math Pentathlon
Time frame: November through April. Coordinate the after-school math program, which leads to preparation for the Math Pentathlon competition. Chair coordinates initial organization of after school classes, learning games, and spring tournament preparations.  Chair should expect to spend a few hours on average each week throughout the school year.  This includes attending the one-hour weekly after school math pentathlon class, which usually starts in November.   Committee members help children with learning games and preparation for competition.  Chair:  Shannon Strzynski
Media Center
Time frame: Ongoing through the school year. Chair will coordinate the library volunteers’ schedule, and arrange for each volunteer to be familiar with the library and volunteer duties. They will also act as a liaison between the Media Specialist and the volunteers. Volunteers will help students find and shelf books, check books in and out, read to students, assist with catalog and projects as needed. Individuals can volunteer weekly, monthly, or even be put on a sub list.  Chair: Julie Salzmann
New Families (Parent Liaison Program)
Time frame: Ongoing through the school year. Acts as a liaison to families new to West Clay.  Committee members will welcome each new family to West Clay and help answer any questions.  Chair:  Patrice Dawson
Nurse's Office
Time frame: Ongoing through the school year. Assist the office nurse during staff meetings and busy times. Chairperson schedules the volunteers and sets up a training session for Nurse’s Office volunteers.  Chair:  Michele Buoscio
Pastries with Parents
Organize "Pastries with Parents".  Responsibilities will include securing a food vendor, promoting event, and set up and tear down of event.  Event will be held in the Fall in place of "Donuts with Dad" and "Muffins with Mom".
Room Parent Coordinator
Inform Room Parents of class party dates and guidelines and any other communications necessary to disseminate to classrooms. Assist in recruiting volunteers for Carnival.  Coordinator:  Heather Witter
Room Parent
Plan and host class parties and help recruit volunteers for Carnival. Send out communications to class, as needed.
Shop with Scrip Coordinator
The PTO will be introducing Shop with Scrip as a new fundraiser in the Fall.  The Shop with Scrip program allows the school to purchase gift cards to over 400 vendors at a discounted rate.  Parents can purchase the gift cards at face value, and the PTO will profit the difference.  The Coordinator will need to publicize this new fundraising endeavor, set-up and manage a "store" in the front office, place online orders, and distribute gift cards when they arrive.  Committee members will assist with distribution of the gift cards.  Co-chairs:  Jeevani Doddapaneni and June Liao
Spirit Wear
Time frame: Summer through September. Moving to online vendor. Oversee research and development of ideas to promote school spirit and to regulate the copyrighted use of the school mascot. Supervise the purchasing, marketing, and selling of WC specialty items.  Manage the budget of these items.  Chair:  Ann Busha
Track and Field (Field Day)
Time frame: Planning meeting could start as early as February. Event is held in May. Volunteers are needed to help supervise and assist on that day as well as help with planning with the Wellness teacher. Spend a day outdoors and relive your childhood.  Chair:  Jo-Ann Feltman
Website and Facebook
Keep the PTO website current by updating information as needed. Post information on WC’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. Facebook and Twitter posts can be scheduled so you don't have to do it "live".  Training is provided by the district on a very easy to use template that can be accessed by any computer that has online access.  Facebook & Twitter can be done from your smartphone!  Committee members are needed to be the "eyes" of the school to share pictures and information about all the different grade levels and activities that are going on.  This is also a great opportunity for a working parent because most postings can be scheduled in the evening or on weekends.  Chair:  Jen Blake
Wellness
Time frame:  Ongoing through the school year.  Assist the school nurse during vision screenings in the Fall and several special Wellness Events: March Madness, Heart Week, Food Try-its, etc.
Yearbook
Committee Members are needed throughout the school year to help with picture day, assist with taking pictures at school events and activities, as well as design the layout of the yearbook. Do you like to use online photo programs like Shutterfly to make photo albums?  Then this is the job for you!  Yearbook Coordinator : responsible for tracking online orders from Jan-March, completing the final order in March, and organizing distribution in May.  This is a great opportunity for a working parent because it can all be done from home except for the distribution in May requires a couple of hours at school.  Chair : responsible for making sure the deadlines are met, the book is consistent, and the work is distributed.  Chair:  Jen Blake
