A United Airlines captain settled a politically-charged “scuffle” with a heartfelt plea to his passengers aboard a flight from San Francisco to Puerto Vallarta late last week, according to a video uploaded on YouTube.

The uploader captioned the clip, “On my friend’s @wirelessness flight from SFO [San Francisco] to Mexico, some kinda scuffle broke out where an individual with a ‘plaid shirt and a camo cap’ said something racist (about being ‘glad to have kept his guns’) to an African American lady, and she began to cry and freak out. They separated the two of them, and then the Captain of the flight got on the PA and made this announcement.’ ”

The accompanying video showed the captain of the flight reaching out to passengers about coming together, making references to Donald Trump being elected the 45th president on Tuesday.

“I understand everybody has their opinions; that’s fine,” the captain began. “If you support him [Trump], great. If you don’t, I understand. However, we’re up here to go to Puerto Vallarta, supposed to be having a good time, and what I do ask is that as people we have the common decency to respect each other’s decisions and to get along … Nobody wants to argue, nobody’s gonna change their minds by arguing. And let’s keep our opinions to ourselves on this particular matter at this particular time.”

He then offered a solution to this contentious post-election period.

“When cooler heads prevail and we can talk and realize we’re all human beings and we all can stick together and we can all pull for this country in our own way, then that’s what we should do. If there’s anybody that has a problem with this, that needs to vent or rant or rave, there’s another flight tomorrow. You’re not gonna be on this one. I hope that’s clear.”

A spokesperson for United Airlines confirmed to SFGate that a verbal altercation did, in fact, happen on that flight. She did not, however, comment on the nature of the disagreement, as alleged in the video caption.

“Our pilot was trying to defuse an argument between passengers to get everyone to their destination safely,” Maddie King said on behalf of the airline. United Airlines could not be reached for comment by PEOPLE.

This is not the only example of high tensions running throughout the country in the wake of Trump’s win over Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Thousands have taken part in dozens of protests across the country after Trump’s Tuesday night win.

In addition to the anti-Trump protests, there have been reports of racially charged incidents against African Americans, Latinos and Muslims in schools and communities across the country.
