Oopsie - commuter aid turns into sandtrap

Sand for icy streets can become traffic hazard

Irony alert!

This morning, as I was headed in to work, I noticed that road crews had dumped two large loads of dark gray sand into the westbound lane of Atlanta Street just south of the Zoo. I thought it odd that the sand would be placed directly in the roadway, rather than off to the side, so I took the documentary photo you see below:

Returning home hours later along the same stretch of Atlanta Street, I saw flashing hazard lights up ahead. Getting closer, I realized the lights belonged to some unlucky stiff who’d driven straight into the very same huge mound of dark sand I’d seen this morning — and which the road crew hadn’t bothered to spread across the icy street, much less even mark with orange cones. His car hung up on the sand, the unfortunate driver had apparently gone off looking for help, so there was nothing stopping me from taking this “after” photo:

I believe this qualifies as an epic FAIL.
