“50 Shades Darker,” the sequel to “50 Shades of Grey,” may be affected by events surrounding the tragic truck attack in Nice, France that claimed up to 80 lives on Thursday night.
The crew on the production, which is filming approximately 40 minutes outside of the French Riviera beachside city, are all safe and accounted for, according to an individual with knowledge of the situation. It is unknown which members of the cast may have been on location.
The source said that the filmmakers don’t anticipate any changes to the shooting schedule as a result of what French President Francois Hollande said was “obviously a terrorist attack,” but that the production will comply with any safety measures required by the French government in the wake of the tragedy.
As crowds celebrating French National Day gathered along Nice’s Promenade des Anglais to watch a fireworks display, a cargo truck careened down the street for more than a mile, reportedly zig-zagging to maximize pedestrian casualties.
The sequel to 2015’s “50 Shades of Grey” will again feature Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson as BDSM enthusiasts Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, respectively. The first movie has broken a number of records since its impressive Valentine’s Day weekend debut, when it opened at No. 1 in 54 territories.
“Fifty Shades Darker” is slated to debut in theaters on Feb. 10, 2017.
