Man arrested for allegedly impersonating a police officer

A man was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of flashing a fake badge, claiming to be a police officer and trying to force his way into a woman’s apartment.

The woman told police that a man knocked on the door of an apartment she shares with her mother at 1110 E. Cozza Drive and identified himself as a police officer. She said he was asking about her car and whether she had a boyfriend, according to court documents.

Her mother then came to the door and tried to shut it when the man refused to show his badge again. The man, identified as 31-year-old Roman A. Moyseyenko, reportedly jammed his foot in the door so they couldn’t close it and also held the door open with his hands, according to court documents. He left when they called police.

Police quickly caught up with Moyseyenko, who lives in the same apartment complex. He reportedly told police that he believed the women had stolen his stereo and admitted he showed a badge and claimed to be a police officer, according to court documents.

Moyseyenko, who has no criminal convictions, was released on his own recognizance after a brief court appearance Tuesday on suspicion of residential burglary and criminal impersonation. He is scheduled to be in court on Oct. 12 on charges of driving while intoxicated and reckless endangerment in a separate case.
