Eat, Pray Love opens here in Germany tomorrow, Thursday, and it seems like Julia Roberts is all over the place. There are signs up at my gym, billboards around town, and she’s being interviewed in the German press. In one interview, with German newspaper Bild, she reveals that she has a box that a friend gave her in which she keeps all her love letters from the past ten years from her husband, Danny Moder. She says that she’s going to give them to her daughter someday.

I have a box that a friend gave me and it’s painted on the inside where says ‘love letters to Julia from Danny’ [where] I’ve kept all the notes and letters that my husband has written to me over ten years.

It’s grateful to give to my daughter when she grows up. Great way to get to know your parents, I think.

[From video interview on Bild.de]

It sounds kind of awkward where she says “it’s grateful” but the video is dubbed in German and I had a hard time hearing exactly what she said.

Most of us know how Julia met a then-married Danny when he was working as a cameraman on the set of The Mexican in 2001. I’m sure he sent her plenty of sweet notes while they were cheating as well as in the early stages of their relationship. They’ve been married for eight years and have three children together, so maybe Julia gets a pass for everything now, despite the very petty things she did to Moder’s ex wife. It’s been nine years and everyone has moved on. I don’t know if she should be so willing to share all that with her daughter, although Hazel, now nearly six, will be a grown woman when she inherits her parents’ love letters and is confronted with the reality of her father’s infidelity.

Swiss newspaper 20 Minuten (it’s one of those free papers they give out at the tram stations) has several non-dubbed English video interviews with Julia and her delicious co-star, Javier Bardem. They’re really flirty with each other and Julia tells a story about how her friends gasped when they first saw Javier in the trailer for their movie. Penelope should watch her back.

Ew. I don’t want to read my parents love letters.

But, CB, your “petty things” sources are lame as hell. and in addition, if the Irish Sunday Times (you know, breaking celebrity news) is correct, it sounds like Vera is a petty b*tch as well

  2. Michelle says:

Gag! Is she also going to leave her love letters from Keiffer Sutherland, Lyle Lovett, Benjamin Bratt and all the other men she was in “committed” (engaged or married) relationships with?

  3. Malorie says:

I find it gross and narcissistic!

And I have a question: Why is Angelina Jolie often called a homewrecker despite the children with Pitt and the yeeeeeeears and not Julia Roberts?

Last thing: Penelope… Don´t suffer, Julia is not Javier´s type XDD

  4. kh says:

yeah, i’m sure her daughter will really love them and not be grossed out at all. *eyeroll*

  5. cat says:

Yeah I ran across some letters that my Dad wrote to my Mom before I was born, gross. I don’t need to know that stuff. But to each it’s own.

  6. Sassy says:

The fuck? No kid wants to read love letters from one parent to the other, even when they grow up. I have four kids – two of which are now grown men – and I’ve asked them if they’d ever want to read the love letters we have – all declined. Ha.

  7. Emma says:

I think it’s kind of sweet. My mom did the same for me. I haven’t read them yet. I”m not sure what I’m waiting for. Maybe a serious relationship. But anyway, my parents have been married twenty-five years and still seem like they are (pretty much) in love. It’s kind of a cool thing.

  8. Wench. says:

Wow, I don’t agree with any of these comments at all.

I think it’s actually really beautiful. (Disregarding the silly remark about previous boyfriends as, quite frankly, where’s the link between those and her daughter?)

Sure, her daughter is probably going to be grossed out and embarrassed by it as a teenager but she won’t stay 15 forever. Especially when she’s a lot older and her parents aren’t around any more, I can’t think of anything nicer than having romantic notes detailing all the wonderful times they had and how madly in love her parents are/were. It’s nice. I wish my mother had kept her love letters so I could read.

  9. California Surfer says:

I totally agree with the commenters that it is pretty ick but maybe they are for the time when Julia passes away, I think that is when you read this stuff.

  10. girl says:

What I thought was petty was a grown woman, Julia Roberts wearing a t-shirt that was specifically insulting to Danny Moder’s now ex-wife, as in mentioned her by name.

Seems like reasonably intelligent adults should have the tiniest bit of foresight that things like this can come back and bite them in the ass. Certainly her children will find out that their parents marriage started with an affair. THAT is pretty disgusting, nevermind the gooey love letters written while they were cheating.

Don’t these children have half siblings because of the 1st wife?

  11. Stronzilla says:

Yeah, is she gonna give her daughter the ‘A Low Vera’ T-shirt too?

  12. Jezi says:

The love letters are a sweet thing. I loved reading through my grandmothers things and hearing stories. It was very surreal. However, their relationship began as an affair and so I wouldn’t be so proud of that Julia. Even though years went by, you are both still cheaters. You don’t get a free pass.

  13. whatever says:

Will Julia also teach Hazel that it is ok, to go after married men? There are no boundaries, when you want someone?

Hazel, Phinn and Harry are all going to learn about their mothers “affairs”. From Keifer Sutherland, who left his wife and child for Julia, who ended up being ditched for his best friend Jason Patric, 3 days before the wedding, her 21 month marriage to Lyle Lovett, and other men that were either engaged, or in a committed relationship, to how she snagged their father. Julia has quite the record in Hollywood, in fact so much, that when Julia wasn’t involved, there was a joke in Hollywood, that women had to watch their men, because Julia was on the prowl.

  14. Cam says:

I think it’s kind of cute, I wish my mother would have done the same thing… my parents’ve been married for 33 years, and they’re still in love… aw.

And btw, the pap on the second pic is cuuuuute.

  15. mina says:

    ok that’s creepy!

  16. Sumodo1 says:

    Puh-LEEZE!

Danny must be cheating again, so Julia is launching a pre-emptive strike with this pronouncement.

    Bimbo alert!

  17. juli says:

the guy in the second pic is her husband! “A Low Vera’s” ex! I cannot believe she is America’s sweetheart all these years, and she’s nothing but a frigid homewrecker.

  18. Rosanna says:

I’m sure Hazel won’t be as judgmental as many readers on this site and will understand that when you fall in love you can’t decide. It sure would be better not to fall for married men, but it just happens, and you’re not a bad person because of it.

  19. Persistent Cat says:

@Rosanna, I was just about to comment the same thing. I get that this is a gossip site but good Lord the judging and holier than thou-ness gets irritating.

Whatever. People cheat, people break up, people don’t always do the right thing. Get over it.

I think it’s kind of sweet that she’s doing that, it’s a nice memento for a daughter. And I’m pretty sure they won’t be dirty notes, that’s just ridiculous.

  20. Hautie says:

I have a stack of postcards that were written by my great grandparents.

My great grandmother never threw anything away… and had kept 3 years of these really charming notes they mailed to each other while he was courting her…

    (They were married in 1911)

Her Mother kept them from marrying till my great grandmother was 20. Which I was told more than once by her… made her the old maid of her group of friends.

Yes, waiting till you were 20 to get married, made you an old Maid.

But these are harmless little notes of affection.

Yet, I am kind of fearful of what exactly Moder had to tell Julia, to get her out of her pants.

  21. original kate says:

sounds like julia is oversharing about her love life, and we all know what that means in hollywood: trouble.

  22. LindaR says:

Are they all signed “Danny Moder, Under Duress”?

  23. Mistral says:

I think it’s sweet. I’m sure she won’t be giving her any letters with sexual content in them. Just the sweet and innocent ones…

  24. Ruffian9 says:

Think it leaves out the part where he was married to someone else when he wrote some of those letters?

    Thought so.

And this: “Penelope should watch her back.” Hahahahahahaha. Good one. JR has nothing on Penelope. Not one thing. Good for a laugh, though.

  25. Andrea-2 says:

Love doesnt’ just “happen”; it’s not the friggin’ flu, for God’s sake. If you feel attraction for a married man, you don’t go near him, talk to him or contact him in any way, shape or form.

And even if you give her a “pass” on that, it doesn’t excuse her nasty, bitchy attitude to Danny’s wife. Julia was indignant that Vera didn’t want to just hand over her husband to her.

    Skank…

  26. LittleOat says:

While I agree to a certain point that you can’t help who you fall in love with, that isn’t the point in this case. She was a nasty bitch about it.

  27. iKat says:

Wow.. a lot of cynical people.

I think this is really romantic and a lovely thing to keep. For herself or her daughter.

  28. REALIST says:

Penelope has nothing to worry about. She is 100 times hotter than Julia, and now she’s havin’ Javier’s baby.
I think Penelope and Javier may be even hotter as a couple than Brangelina!
