Wekiva High School near Apopka went into lockdown Tuesday afternoon when authorities found a gun in a student’s backpack.
Orange County deputies arrested the 17-year-old student and confiscated the gun, spokeswoman Jane Watrel said. The student is not being identified because he is a minor.
Another student spotted the gun and told an adult, Principal Michele Erickson said in a recorded message to parents.
“No one was hurt, and at no time was the weapon used in a threatening manner,” Erickson said.
Administrators decided to cancel all on-campus after school activities Tuesday afternoon and evening as a precaution.
