One person was killed Tuesday morning when two freight trains crashed south of Roswell.New Mexico State Police said two people on a southbound train leapt off moments before the train collided with a northbound train that was standing still around 6 a.m.Jesse Coburn, 48, from Texico, New Mexico, was killed. The other crew member is in serious condition and has not yet been identified. He was taken to a local hospital and then flown to Lubbock, Texas, for more aggressive treatment.More than 10 train cars derailed in the crash.The crash happened near State Road 2 (Old Dexter Highway) and Vista Largo. A section of the highway from Darby Road to Orchard Park Road will remain closed until the wreckage is cleared, which may take several days, officials said. Drivers should seek alternate routes.State police said this is a hazmat situation due to the diesel fuel from the two trains. Officials said there's no threat to public health or safety, however.The National Transportation Safety Board sent investigators, though state police are in charge of the investigation.
