'The Walking Dead' will shamble into a second season, as AMC renews hit zombie show

I called it last week

: After two highly rated episodes, AMC has renewed "The Walking Dead" for

a second season

.

The Halloween-night series premiere drew 5.3 million viewers. Sunday's episode, "Guts," was seen by 4.7 million people - which means 4.7 million people were grossed out by the severed foot hanging around actor Andrew Lincoln's neck. ("Walking Dead" creator/comic-book writer Robert Kirkman addresses the icky foot in this fun interview with Entertainment Weekly.)

It hasn't been revealed how many episodes AMC has ordered at this point. The first season will run for six weeks.

If you're just hopping on the "Walking Dead" bandwagon, be sure to A) set your DVR for 10 p.m. this Sunday, when the third episode airs and B) check out my recaps of the first and second episodes for analysis and summary. (Be sure to come back every week, as I'll be posting a recap every Monday morning.)

One more bit of info.: Kirkman's thirteenth "The Walking Dead" trade paperback comic compendium will be in stores Nov. 23. Go buy it at your local comic shop of choice, OK?

Finally, if you want to watch Lincoln put a bullet in the forehead of a cute little-girl zombie, the first episode is officially online. Watch it below, but, as if the previous sentence wasn't enough of a heads-up, be warned: it contains gory, violent content.
