Italian Sausage Chili with Lentils For The Big Game with @Johnsonville #ad

Today, I was back on WCIU You & Me This Morning representing Johnsonville for the upcoming big game sharing this hearty and delicious Italian Sausage and Lentil Chili that is a great crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 package Johnsonville Italian sausage, out of the casing
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Fresh cracked pepper
  • 1-15.5 ounce can black beans, washed
  • 1-15.5 ounce can red kidney beans, washed
  • 1.5 cups frozen corn
  • 1 cup dry green lentils
  • 1-28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1-12 ounce bottle dark beer
Instructions:

Heat a large skillet with olive oil to medium/high heat.

Saute the onions and garlic together until the onions become soft and translucent. Then, add the Johnsonville Italian Sausage and with a wooden spoon, break them apart to smaller pieces and cook until slightly brown. You might need to render some extra fat, if there is any.

Then, add the seasonings and stir. Turn off the heat and transfer the Italian sausage mixture in your slow cooker. In the slowcooker, add the beans, corn, lentils, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste and beer. Stir thoroughly and set the timer to 3 hours.

Every hour, stir the chili and taste. Before serving, taste for seasoning and top with your favorite toppings.
