Support for the creation of an International Panel Against Poverty and Inequality
Beginning in 2015, new sustainable development goals will guide the global development policies and the fight against poverty and inequality. One of the main demands of those involved in this process is to nurture policy decisions on sufficient evidence and knowledge to build political agendas that are coherent with development and enable good decision making.

The Spanish Alliance against Poverty (SAAP), as one of the greatest coalitions of Spanish Civil Society Organizations, noted the need to strengthen the relationship between political decision making and scientific knowledge in relation to poverty and inequality. Specific and appropriate mechanisms should be established to strengthen this relationship. For this, the SAAP proposes the creation of an International Panel of Experts Against Poverty and Inequality.

After the reform and strengthening process of the ECOSOC carried out in the United Nations, this Panel could be part of the spaces that are being created specifically for this purpose within it and, in particular, within the High Level Political Forum, whose role is to review and provide technical guidance for the post 2015 agenda.

This panel could have similar work and responsibilities to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in its field, becoming the leading global source to provide analysis and to propose solutions to poverty and inequality and their root causes.

As part of the international strategy for the materialization of this Panel, the SAAP announces the "International Meeting on the creation of an International Panel of Experts Against Poverty and Inequality" in Madrid on October 16 and 17, in which different personalities - academics, politicians and representatives from the global civil society - will participate.

The undersigned hereby support the creation of an International Panel of Experts Against Poverty and Inequality and the celebration of this international meeting.
