Abstract :

Factory layout and design software need to be responsive to the demands of flexible factories to enable factory designers to effectively introduce improvements to facilities. Fortunately, many software tools and methods are now available to make the creation of layout designs less time-consuming and more cost-effective. This means that reductions in material flow, work in progress and throughput times can be achieved just by using these software instruments. These tools integrate capabilities to help planners and designers in the organizational, physical and capacity improvements of their factories. An added attraction is the improving learning curve and usability of these tools, further enabling factories to be more responsive to the challenges of a global economy.
