    I actually agree about it, it takes too long to wait for shield to work, you can then cancel your wrong move and adjust, which is perfect, even middle mouse button could be good for that, I believe every melee game has this.

    BRING BACK SLASH FEIGNING!

    You used to be able to press the inventory button (F) to cancel your slash charge. It added another layer of complexity to combat; why was it removed? I guess because it was considered an exploit since the inventory button was never intended to do that, but it was a happy accident. Give feigning it's own button, make it F again, I don't care- just bring it back. Give this game some more meta.
