'This isn't Toronto,' Bradford sheriff says after Hampton mayor's arrest
Few would confuse Bradford County's Hampton with Toronto. However, there is one similarity. Both have mayors embroiled in a narcotics scandal.
Hampton Mayor Barry Layne Moore, 51, was arrested about 4:50 p.m. Monday in Polk County after Bradford County deputies obtained a warrant on charges of possession of drugs and selling drugs.
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has admitted to smoking crack cocaine while he was in a drunken stupor.
Moore is accused of having and selling Oxycodone, according to the Sheriff's Office. He was booked into the Polk County jail in lieu of $45,000 bail.
"This isn't Toronto," Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith said in a statement. "We will not tolerate illegal drug activity in my jurisdiction by anyone to include our elected officials."
Moore's criminal history includes a 2012 battery charge and a 2005 domestic battery arrest.
