Episode 015 - Navigating between extremes

You caught me right in the middle of creating version 2 of the Low-key Bodyscapes book. Why is this topic so fascinating? Because when posing for bodyscapes, the model navigates between two extreme poles. On the one hand she is not only nude but even gets into very revealing poses. On the other hand she stays anonymous because her face is not in the frame.

The E-Book version of the book, which I will always keep updated, is here: http://goodlightmag.com/low-key-bodyscapes

Episode 014 - f/1.2 does not make my photos better

Episode 014 - f/1.2 does not make my photos better

In the beginning of my photography I thought that I need a fast prime lens in order to make good photos. Furthermore, I would need a lot of photoshop and bunch of other silly tweaks. Nowadays I seldom shoot wider than f/2.8. The photos for my books often don't get retouched at all. Not always ideal, but I don't mind. You?

Episode 013 - Horror-Selfies at the hotel party

Today at the hotel party I see a lot of people shooting selfies. Mostly in a very unfavorable way. How about we practice selfies today in one or two photos?

Passionate About Beauty Photography

Michael is one of the very few photographers who allows his audience to experience the dynamic of being on set while he is photographing his wife. He appreciates the sexy side of beauty photograhy and offers lots of tips on working with subjects, gear, accessories, and other aspects one wouldn't immediately consider, but are all part of the equation when achieving beautiful photos.

When I wanted my beauty photography to "pop" like other stuff I'd seen, I went to YouTube and watched people like Michael Zelbel and Manny Ortiz. They introduced me to off-camera flash and educated me on the fine points of the technique.

I think you'll appreciate Michael's openness and transparencey. He's not afraid to show his own vulnerability to make a point about improving your photography.

Great format and CONSISTENCY

Michael selects great topics and he constantly produces great podcasts. They are short and to the point so I listen to them when I am walking the dog.

Keep up the great work.

Very useful tips for amateur photographers

Michael’s podcasts are a perfect balance of technical information that isn’t dumbed down, while still explaining things in a way that is very accessible for a motivated student of photography. I’ve posted a few questions on his Facebook page and he has answered each one with an episode of this podcast! I also subscribe to his “Good Light!” app/iOS Newstand magazine, which I highly recommend as well. The educational lessons he gives for free (this podcast) or very low cost (Good Light! magazine) are a steal that no one should pass up.
